What Do I Eat? June 20, 2020

Let me address a frequent question I get about simple meals vs. recipes.

Q: Cristy, you say simple is best, with a fat, a veggie, and a protein. So why do you have a cookbook full of recipes?

A: For the following reasons:

1 – The recipes in the Code Red Cookbook are still very simple. They are great for people new to Code Red, people who are trying to feed their family, people who need ideas for food to bring to a social gathering, and so on. You can lose weight and feel better eating from the cookbook. It’s an excellent bridge from the toxic Standard American Diet to Code Red.

The purpose of the cookbook is to give more people more options, and also meet people where they are. It may not always be where I want them to be (yet), but it’s absolutely a step in the right direction.

2 – There are two kinds of people in the world – people who enjoy cooking, following recipes, and making a big deal of out time in the kitchen, and people like me, who do NOT. We just wanna quickly throw something together, eat it, and be done. That’s where fat-veggie-protein, keep it simple, and What Do I Eat? come in.

Also, if you’re someone who’s used to eating only fast food, or food that comes in a box or can, the thought of having to use recipes is totally overwhelming. Throwing together a veggie, a fat, and a protein, on the other hand, feels doable.

Even if you’re someone who loves the “complicated recipe” thing, it’s useful for you to see these quick, simple meal ideas. There are gonna be days where you don’t have six hours to spend in the kitchen. Or you may travel and need something simpler to take. If complicated recipes are all you know, you’ll be left hanging.

Simple is what works BEST on Code Red. It’s not the only thing that works, it just works BEST (meaning the fastest).
