What NOT to do when you hit goal weight

I set foot on the bodybuilding competition stage for the first time in over 20 years April 28-29, 2023.

Afterwards, my leftover spray tan left me looking a little like an oompa loompa. 😂

Of course, that was only temporary.

But what I don’t want to be temporary is all the progress I made getting into the best shape of my life.

A lot of people in my situation go right back to what they were doing before and regain their weight.

The fact competitive bodybuilders struggle with weight regain, too, tells you what a problem it is.

And it’s one more reason I encourage you to lose your weight doing something that’s sustainable for YOU…and then having a plan to move forward once you hit goal weight.

Notice what I said there: move FORWARD.

Because if you go BACK to what got you fat and sick, then as you know from frustrating personal experience, you’ll get fat and sick again.

I don’t know why some part of us holds onto this vain hope that THIS time we can go back to binging on as much as we want of “our Doritos” or guzzling 3 liters a day of “our Pepsi,” or whatever we were doing, and NOT get the same crap results.

But deep down, you and I both know it doesn’t work that way.

If you don’t have a weight problem and are healthy, awesome.

If you’re not yet successfully maintaining at a healthy weight, and/or not doing great getting to a healthy weight, then either:

  • What you’re trying to do isn’t sustainable for you long term
  • It IS sustainable for you long term, but you’re not sticking with it

If you’re not sticking with it, part of your problem is most likely that you don’t have enough connection with a group of like-minded people. Believing the myth that you “should be able to do it all on your own” keeps people just as fat and unhealthy as crap food.

You have a role to play in your own success for sure.

That does not mean the best option is to try and do it alone.

Except for the ultra-rare outlier, most people aren’t able to get and/or STAY successful without the support of a community. It’s too much of a jungle out there.

If what you’re doing isn’t working because it’s not sustainable for YOU, maybe it’s time to pick something that IS sustainable for you.
