Thinking you get “extra calories” because you exercise is something that really sabotages people trying to lose weight.
Besides the fact exercise is not a way to address a weight problem (despite what we’ve all been led to believe), most people don’t burn anywhere near the amount of calories they think they do.
And because they believe they “earned” extra calories by exercising, the first thing so many people do when they’re done is pig out on junk food.
Or they tell themselves, “I exercised. I was good today. I’m going to reward myself.”
It’s a vicious cycle, and it’s one of many reasons I constantly bring up the fact you don’t need exercise to lose weight…and why I tell my clients they do not get extra calories just because they exercised.
Heck, even I don’t get extra calories for exercise, as you’ll see in this week’s “What Do I Eat?”
I’ve just returned home from a hike, yet I’m eating the same thing, in the same amount, that I’d have eaten if I hadn’t just exercised.
