How to overthink yourself into overwhelm and fall off the wagon

In the summer of 2019 I attended a conference on high-fat, low-carb eating, and you know what one of my biggest takeaways ways?

That by insisting my Code Red Rebels keep it simple, I am definitely on the right track.

This conference had a ton of valuable info on the benefits of eating the way we do on the Code Red Lifestyle™.

But it made everything SOOOOOOO complicated.

And if most of the people who come to Code Red had to know all that stuff, they’d never do it.

Eating real food, drinking water, and sleeping are not complicated.

Yet so often, people who come on to the lifestyle try and make them complicated.

Case in point: The 10 Pound Takedown Challenge. If you’ve never done one, here’s how it works:

  • You eat the foods on the Foods To Eat side of the list.
  • You avoid the foods on the Foods To Avoid side of the list.
  • You track your weight, water, and sleep for 30 days.
  • You follow 10 simple rules.
  • You drink water.
  • You watch my daily live trainings in the challenge Facebook group.

There’s no calorie counting, macros, portion sizes, ketone testing strips (we don’t do those on Code Red). You listen to your body, eat when you’re hungry, and stop eating when you’re full.

There’s no complicated recipes, either. You just buy normal Code Red-approved foods at the grocery store, and eat those. The simpler the better.

And of course, there’s no shakes, diet pills, diet foods, or exercise.

None of this sounds like rocket science, does it?

Yet I get people on the challenge who post the ingredient label of every food they can find and ask, “Is this okay?”

I get people on the challenge who think they have to prepare gourmet meals, instead of just eating a fat, a veggie, and a protein.

And I get people on the challenge who try to pick apart every possible food they can possibly eat and learn the intricate details about it.

All any of that stuff does is A) Make weight loss WAY more complicated than it actually is, and B) send you and the other people in the challenge into a spiral of overwhelm.

Most weight loss programs complicate the crap out of EVERYTHING. I saw this first hand at the conference I mentioned, and I see it everywhere else, so I get it.

But hear me when I say this: Weight loss is SIMPLE. Eat real food, drink water, sleep.

Focus on the simple basics. LEARN the simple basics. Then MASTER the simple basics.

That’ll make you more successful at weight loss than ANY of the complicated bullcrap floating around out there.
