In my 30-day 10 Pound Takedown, someone posted this question:
“Can lack of sleep stall weight loss?”
Sounds like someone new to Code Red…
Because if you’ve been around Code Red for more than a hot minute, you’ve heard me say that sleep is the #1 rule in weight loss…and if you ain’t sleeping, you ain’t losing!
Not only that, lack of sleep can lead to weight GAIN.
If you start getting more sleep right away, it usually comes right back off.
But if lack of sleep becomes a pattern, and you mix it with stress and a crap diet, you start gaining more and more weight.
A crap diet and lack of sleep feed into each other, too.
Meaning, when you don’t get enough sleep, you crave sugary crap. It’s your body’s way of trying to get you a quick hit of energy.
When you eat crap (especially late at night), including alcohol, your sleep suffers.
It’s a brutal cycle, and it’s one a lot of people are trapped in.
It’s also one reason a lot of people get terrible sleep on their vacations.
For some people, part of that is being outside your home environment, or sharing a room with people who disrupt your sleep.
But most of the time, it’s because people eat crap, drink a lot, and stay up late.
If you’re you’re actually trying to stay on track with your food, it only adds to your anxiety.
Taking a break from caring is the mindset most people bring to vacations.
They wanna stop worrying about bills, their job, their marriage, their food, the economy, and just “enjoy themselves.”
The problem with that is that most people trying to get healthier take a break from caring and stay on that break.
After the vacation ends, they don’t get right back on track like they think they will, because taking a break from caring was such a relief. Returning to caring feels like SUCH a daunting burden.
That’s why, if you’re on a health journey, the best thing to do is to keep caring and keep doing the next right thing.
You’ve taken plenty of breaks from a healthy lifestyle, because you’re treating it like a diet INSTEAD OF a lifestyle.
Returning to the mindsets, choices, and habits that got you fat and sick will only get you there again (which is what you do in the diet mentality).
If you want to get AND keep new results, make new choices…not once…not occasionally…but consistently.
