Summer is packed full of vacations, road trips, and outdoor adventures for most of my Rebels.
And traveling while staying true to Code Red eating is daunting for people new to the Code Red Lifestyle™.
It’s not like unapproved foods are gonna fly off the grocery store shelves or dinner plates and sail down your throat!
But I get the nerves. That first trip or social occasion where tempting foods are around–or Code Red-approved foods are not readily available–is an informal rite of passage for new Rebels, and nobody wants to mess it up.
The great thing about Code Red-approved foods is that you can find them almost anywhere – whether you’re in Beijing, China, or a middle-of-nowhere truck stop, there’s always something you can eat.
I encourage my Rebels to pack (or buy) their own Code Red foods. It eliminates the stress and worry of the unknown.
Below is a list of approved travel foods popular with my veteran Rebels.
Whether you travel for work, play, or are in a job like police work, these Code Red-approved foods are easy to transport so you can stay on track.
Best of all, many of them can be found in gas station convenience stores!
- Single-serve guacamole packets
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Carrot sticks
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Nut butter (jars or packets)
- Tuna fish packets
- Coconut oil or MCT oil single-serve packets
- Pepperoni
- Salami
- Nuts (remember, peanuts are a legume, not a nut, so they aren’t approved for weight loss mode)
- Grape/cherry tomatoes
- Pickles
- Full-fat Ranch dressing
- Jerky (beware added sugar) or beef sticks
- Deli lunch meat
- Pork rinds
- Pre-made deli chef salads
Keep an eye out the next time you go grocery shopping or fill up your car at the gas station. You’ll be surprised what’s there!
If you don’t want to pack food, or hit the grocery store once you arrive and get settled, call your restaurant or hotel ahead of time and ask if they can work with you. Look menus up online and decide ahead of time what you’re going to do.
Travel on Code Red does NOT have to be stressful!
A little pre-planning, keeping your eyes open, and remembering that YOU control what goes in your mouth are the simple keys to staying Code Red-approved on trips!
