The short answer is no, you aren’t too old to lose weight.
It’s a myth that there’s some age cutoff for weight loss.
What’s usually happening is that people’s bodies change as they age, and what used to work when you were twenty stops working.
Another thing that happens is that, as resilient as our bodies are, there’s only so much “damage” they can take before it catches up to us.
For a lot of people, the copious amounts of sugar, processed food, and alcohol (for example) they eat and drink catches up to them in their 40s and 50s. (Although, these days, some people are seeing the fallout in their twenties or even younger.)
Whatever the reasons for the changes, a lot of people experience them and leap to the conclusion that, “Oh, this is my fate because of my age,” when really, all it means is that you need a new way forward that incorporates the changes occurring AS you age.
“Here I am, back to CR! I was around in 2021 and lost 75 pounds; I’ve gained about 30 back. In the meantime, I’ve been searching, thinking and reading… about the variety of weight loss promos out there and how easy it would to believe in all. To sign up for every quick solve to my weight loss and become a diet junkie … which I started to do but caught myself.
“I’ve also been doing some hard searching and looking back at why ‘the CR program failed’ and what was going on. First, I got angry with the program; it was keeping me from eating all the good stuff and wanted/needed/craved to try some of the foods I loved just once more. Wrong decision!
“Second, was the people who seemed to know more about me than I did and what was best for me. Like I was loosing too much weight and looked too thin! Wrong!
“Third was getting my head on straight and remembering how I felt when I was in full swing with CR. I felt great, better than I had for years!! The back pain was gone, I could walk without stopping because I was out of breath, and the list could go on.
“Fourth was well, I just missed CR!! Why not sign up again, put it out that I had struggled and quit complaining! So here I am. 75, a grandmother and wife. Anxious to get started on 11/11 and see where it takes me. Thanks for taking me back!!”
I love that this lady recognized her roadblocks, owned them, and decided to stop letting them be roadblocks…”even at her age,” as some people might think.
