What Is This Episode About…

They had their life all figured out. They dated, got married, and had planned out this awesome future together, but it was all getting destroyed at an alarming rate right before their eyes because of their obesity.

Brandon was over 300 pounds and Sarah was approaching 300 pounds, and it all happened so unintentionally from following what the marketing campaigns and food pyramids are always advising Americans. When they got married, they decided to have a kid so Sarah went off birth control, and within five months she had put on 80 pounds, and found out that she had PCOS that made it much harder for her to lose the weight.

Brandon was also having huge health challenges of his own with his weight, and it even threatened his job. One day while Sarah was at work, she overheard someone talks about how they had lost 40 pounds (and their mom lost 100 pounds) with the Code Red Lifestyle. So she got very curious, researched it, went home and told Brandon about it, and they bought the Code Red Revolution book.

It took them 4 days to read the whole book, and they started going off of it while also researching more on Code Red. That’s how they found out about the 10 Pound Takedown Challenge. They signed up as soon as they could and never looked back. They are now down to about 100 pounds each, and their lives have never been better. They’re healthier, happier, and so fulfilled. This could be your story too. Listen in for more and you’ll definitely get a ton of inspiration.

Welcome to revel weight loss and lifestyle. I am Christy Code Red, your host, author, entrepreneur, retired professional boxer coming at you for another awesome podcast. I think all of them are awesome. I really do. You guys know that movie, the greatest showmen with Hugh Jackman I love that movie is that it’s like one of my top five favorite movies right? Well, I just bought the soundtrack and stupid me I’ve been listening to it on my phone. And I can’t get those songs out of my head. I just keep you know, over and over and over my goodness. Hey, before we get started, let me read a review really awesome review. This is from the July bar. JULY ba er. I don’t know that’s the way I’m going to pronounce it but that’s what it’s written July bar. Five stars. Best way to stay connected. I joined code read on June 28 Teen Challenge and then purchased a custom program after a year connected to the group had ventured on my own but if it wasn’t for podcast and life group. And all the insights Christie and Kari offer I would probably have gained all my weight back. Oh, I love that this is a free resource and every time I learned something new or remember why we do what we do, code read changed my life, my family and my business as I am way more confident. Now, what an awesome review. You know it’s funny, taking control of your diet. It’s so not about it is about weight loss. We do want to lose weight, we want to get to a weight that is healthy for us. But it’s so much more than that. It ends up causing everything in our life to level up, it ends up we’re better parents, we’re better spouses, we’re better at our workplace. We’re better at our church, we’re better overall we’re better waiting in line at the coffee shop. We’re better waiting at a stoplight. We’re just overall it makes us better people because we have more control over ourselves. It just the control that we have over our nutrition it spills out into so many areas of our life. And I know when I let my nutrition slip, I just get lazy if I let my eating get lazy if I get lazy with my eating, I get lazy in all areas of my life. I do, and I don’t like it. I don’t like that baloney. But when I tighten up my diet, when I say diet, that the definition of a diet is what a species habitually eats. So when I say diet, that’s what I mean not a diet and the negative term. When I tighten up my diet, my whole life tightens up. I’m more productive. I am a better person. I’m better mom to Annabel, I’m a better wife to miles. I am just overall show much better in all areas of my life. And she’s right. It just spills out. guys got a great podcast here for you today. I spoke to two phenomenal people you are going to fall in love with them when you hear this. Sarah and Brandon. I knew when I met them for the First time that they are special were special. They were different that they stood out among many. And I think they’re going to be with Code Red for a long time. And I’m really excited for you to hear. It was just staggering what was happening in their lives because, you know, they had planned out, you know, they were dating, they got married, and they had planned out this awesome future together. And it was getting dismantled at an alarming rate because of their obesity. Both of them. Were I mean, Brandon was over 300 and Sarah was approaching 300 pounds, and it wasn’t looking good, you guys. So here’s their story. It’s pretty incredible. And I’m sure that you’re going to hear something in here, if not the whole interview that’s going to resonate with you. So I introduced to you Sarah and Brandon heat wall.

Intro  3:54

I’m Cristy Code Red and you’re listening to Rebel Weight Loss and Lifestyle, where we believe food holds the power to heal or poison, and we believe our society has been misled regarding proper nutrition and weight loss. You’re in the right place if you’re looking for some straight-up truth because I’m here to shed light on the lies and brainwashing that has taken place over the past five decades. Thanks so much for listening.

Cristy  4:20

All right, welcome. Welcome. Welcome you guys. I am going to jump right into this. There’s no need to delay I am here with Brandon and Sarah heat well, and I’ve been dying to get an interview with you guys for a while now. And it’s funny because as you guys have gone through your journey, it was like, Oh, let me get them at this point because they’ve lost like 25 pounds, 50 pounds, 100 pounds, and all these milestones have just come and gone. And I haven’t gotten my interview with you. And so I’m like, I don’t care a lot. It’s just I want to talk to Brandon and Sarah because you guys are gonna just die when you hear their story. And it’s going to resonate with so many of you. So Brandon and Sarah. Thank you so much for taking your time to do this with me. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to do this.

Sarah & Brandon  5:05

Absolutely. It’s definitely an honor and pleasure.

Cristy  5:07

Yeah, oh, you’re gonna help bring a lot of hope and healing to a lot of people. So let me dive right in and take me back. Take all of us back to long before code red paint a picture for us about what life was like before code read and what you were struggling with and what you were dealing with and how you try to combat. I mean, you guys, can we just be completely transparent here. You guys were pretty overweight.

Sarah & Brandon  5:31

Yes. Yeah. morbidly obese. For sure. I would say that we definitely fell victim to the normal, everyday routine of the marketing campaigns and all that looks good, that looks shiny. Let’s go and enjoy that. And we did that a little bit more than we probably should have. And we tried to combat that with what the market told us and what the food pyramid told us and We just found ourselves spinning our wheels.

So back when we got married, after we got married, we decided, obviously, like most people that we wanted to try and have a kid, and I went off the birth control pill, and in probably about four months time, five months time, I put on about 80 pounds. And I was already overweight as it was. So that put me up pretty high. Shortly thereafter, found out that I had PC OS. So you know, pretty hard to lose weight with PCs. So we thought, fast forward about seven years later, we went on vacation back in June of 2019. And, you know, did family pictures with his family and, you know, I did the pictures, so I got to edit them pretty quickly and saw us and we were mortified. So couple weeks later, we’re back home. I’m at work I work in a dental office. And there was somebody checking out. And I overheard them mention that she had lost 40 pounds with the code red lifestyle and that her mom had lost 100 pounds with the code red lifestyle. And I was like, ears perk up like, Oh, what’s that? I’ve never heard of that before. And I researched it a little bit while I was at work, and then told Brandon about it. When I got home. We bought the book that night. And we actually read it out loud. Within probably four days, it took us to finish it after work. We didn’t know about the challenge at that point. So we just, you know, went off the book. And then the more we you know, kept going and stuff decided that I wanted to look into it a little bit further, and Google searched it, which is how I found out about the potential and takedown and we joined that one. So we started July 20 off of the book and missed the takedown by I think 24 hours for Joel So we got into the August one never looked back.

Cristy  8:04

This just shows an incredible show when I met you guys, I met you in September of 2019. And you had been in July, August and that you only been on two months. At that point.

Sarah & Brandon  8:17

Yeah, yeah. And I think I was down like 42 pounds and he was down like 60 or something like that. It was kidding. Getting close to that 60-pound threshold. Yeah.

Cristy  8:27

Now you’re you guys are young. And so were you having medical besides the PCs? Were you having any kind of seeing medical problems or things happening with your body because of your obesity?

Sarah & Brandon  8:40

I mean, everything hurt. Yeah, he had a little bit he had something else too. Yeah, I had, you know, a lot. My joints were hurting my knees, hips back in the shoulders hurt at the end of every day. combatted headaches. I chalked that up to just being a big guy. You know, it’s cause and effect. It wasn’t until the detoxed that. I was still over 300 pounds and all of my joint pain disappeared. I was like, Holy moly, there is something to this. And but initially, what also sparked the, I would say just pure dedication and commitment to the experience and to the journey and going all in just pushing the chips in and just saying this is it, this is the last shot was as the CDL driver, we have to do a dot physical fitness test, and I failed. And here my livelihood, my contribution to our financial life was all of a sudden put on a potential that it might be eliminated because I no longer qualify to carry a CDL because I’ve allowed my health to get out of shape. And I was given an ultimatum either lose 40 pounds in three months or Subject myself to a sleep study for suspected sleep apnea as a mandate by deity, and at that particular time, I thought 40 pounds in three months, I have never in my life been able to do anything like that. I guess I’ll do the sleep study. And then it was around that same time that Sarah came home and said, Hey, we got to check this out. Look what I heard about. And that’s when we got the book. And in the process of reading the book, and starting to implement what we were learning, and then joining the challenge and getting the information from the 10-pound takedown challenge that was absolutely eye-opening. And just, I call it a paradigm shift. You know, the information that we got, that we had never seen or heard before that we implemented into our lives because this is it if we really want to accomplish all the things that we talked about wanting to accomplish when we were In the process of dating and getting married, and what do we want as a future and doing it together as life partners, and we, over the years slowly saw that slipping away and losing the hope, all of a sudden here was an opportunity, a bright light that this can change our physical form so that our dreams can potentially become a realization. And we just went after it. We just,

Cristy  11:26

well, my eyes were watering because my makeup got in it, but now I actually am tearing up. What was it about the corporate lifestyle that resonated with you because you had tried so many other things. You’ve spent so much money on other things and other methods that failed? You know what, why did this work?

Sarah & Brandon  11:44

All of the information you give from not just eating the foods that are on the list, but to drinking the water every day and then making sure you’re getting that sleep? Just I mean, at that point I was working 11-hour shifts at different office so, you know getting up at you know, 330 in the morning to work out wasn’t really my cup of tea. Plus, we wouldn’t go to bed until like 10 o’clock so it’s just like we were always tired so I was like I could sleep an extra hour and lose weight. What?yourself? Yeah, but we were I know me personally, I was drinking multiple diet cokes a day and sugar-free monster every day and whatnot. And I like just because I’ve never been a coffee drinker, unfortunately. But like after two weeks had so much more energy than I had drinking all that caffeine and aspartame and everything else that’s all in those drinks. And it just, I don’t know it just everything about it just we feel so much better. I had major surgery on my respect last year and all my swelling has gone down. My wrist is smaller than it’s ever been. It doesn’t Hurt unless it’s gonna rain or snow. So, I mean, yeah,

I think also to add to that would be the lifestyle the code red lifestyle is so uniquely different and it’s just it’s pure, you know, when I think about some of the exercise programs that we did and how they were just highly beneficial, you know, granted, but and at the stage of life that we were in and our physical abilities at the time, it was absolute torture and punishment, and to make that happen, and to go through that and to and it was like, I have to do this in order to achieve this result, hopefully, and very little was discussed on the nutrition side of it. So becauseI’m fat, yeah, everything needed to be low fat. So so when we when we worked out and we saw the results because I am very much a type of person Or if I commit to doing something, I’m going to do it as good as I possibly can. And it just so happens to be 110%. And I’m going to crush this. So when I got this workout program, I was absolutely crushing it but because I did not understand or have the education on the nutritional side of it, when I did then finally have an injury because I was a big guy crushing it every single day. And after a couple of months, something gives out or whatever the case to sort of, you know, push through, because the nutrition hasn’t been addressed. Then over the healing period, you put the majority of the weight back on that you were previously or you had previously burnt off, and it’s this vicious cycle. Then I think about Okay, some of the nutritional programs that we were on and that we tried, where it was supplementation and shakes and whatever. As long as you were on those particular shakes or whatever, you would see some results. But at some point, the body would begin to tell you that this, I don’t want this, this is not giving me what I want. And either I’m starving all day long, or I’m getting sick to my stomach because of it. And it’s not sustainable. And so when we read the book, and I do have to say you did a masterful job and the way you laid that book out, because I definitely connected to the heart and the compassion for people, as well as laying it down in terms that it could be read very, very easily and could be communicated. And you receive that information, but then also the way you sprinkled in the success stories just created it. Yeah, absolutely. And so then furthering from the book, check out the 10-pound takedown challenge, it was like Okay, here’s the next step in the process. The book is great, we refer back to it often. But the 10-pound takedown challenge was the community and we wanted to be a part of the community because we knew we needed that support. Absolutely. And as we saw that, that the change in our lifestyle, by the way of nutrition, that there were going to be some things that changed in our lives as a result of that. Definitely, from a social standpoint, you know, because we were definitely foodies, and we were all into, and we were definitely into pairing our foods with the right adult beverages and having the right flavor profiles. And, and that was just something that we did. And again, we fell into that because that’s the big thing that Americans do these days. And

we needed a change.

We definitely we knew we needed to change. And we knew that a lot of our friends would have something to say when we said yeah, guys, you know what? Definitely hang out. But we’re going to be sipping water this evening. You know, we’re trying to get our water in and look at us, like we, you know, landed from another planet or something. But it was the way it was. And so we knew that we needed an association, we knew that we needed a group of people that were on the same track that we were and trying to make the changes in their lives like we were. And when we found the 10-pound takedown challenge, it completely opened up a door to here’s a community that’s moving in the same direction. That stands for something different in life than what’s being pushed. And we can make changes here. And you know, it’s incredible.

Cristy  17:41

And the book that you’re referring to is the code red revolution book that I wrote. It was released in December of 2017. And it is such a great I also read my own audiobook and it’s so great. It’s just I even liked the book. I know that sounds kind of but I even listened to it. Sometimes. When I’m doing things I’m listening to an audiobook It really is put in very simple terms this lifestyle that we live a real food, water and sleep that nobody ever talked to you guys about. Nobody ever brought up. Hey, let’s talk about your sleep your water and your food and they just kept like oh maybe you have that maybe. And then you went on to join a challenge and then if you save money and you went on to get custom programs and those custom programs were a long time coming, but you I think that Brandon you had hit 100 pounds before your custom program arrived or right at the same time.

Sarah & Brandon  18:30

That was right about the same time. Yeah, we had you know we put together a plan to save the money so that we could get the CPS long before we lost 100 pounds or 70 pounds or even 50 pounds we became a part of the group. We saw the the changes in our lives. We saw the stories and the changes in other people’s lives. We saw the heart and motivation. of Code Red. And you, Christy and we were, we believe that we still believe in it. And we see what if it can make such radical changes in our lives, then they need to make radical changes in anybody’s lives. And then it becomes a for us, it became a look from within and getting ourselves right to Wow, this can change a nation this can change families and communities across the country across the world. And nobody else is talking about this. Nobody else is putting the value in the right things like Code Red is and we want to get custom programs. So one, we can get our own numbers and get to a place where we can accomplish our goals. But we also want we see that as a way to invest in code red to help it continue to push the needle forward and push the truth in a world that is blanketed by so much BS. So when We decided that we wanted to get to custom programs like, okay, let’s put together a plan so that we could save it up and get it. And, you know, lo and behold, yeah, when we got to the place where we were ready to order them, I had already hit that 100-pound threshold. And many people actually, you know, make comments to me like, you’re still going to, you know, spend that money for a CP now you know what to do to lose the weight? And I said, Well, first off, I’m not spending money, I’m investing money into something that I believe in, that’s bigger than myself. And secondly, this was a decision that we made early on. And when we make a decision, we stay committed to our choices. So we’re not going to change or drop back because of the situation will change in this particular aspect. And thirdly, I still want to know my numbers for the future. I want to know that I want to know the details. I want to get into one of those coaching groups and get that next level education that next level Support. I want to walk through that process. I don’t want to cut myself short on what I can potentially gain to level myself up. So and then Sarah had

Cristy  21:09

you hit it? Have you hit 100 yet?

Sarah & Brandon  21:11

I have. I’m at about 100 I’m close to 105 right now.

Cristy  21:17

Man, you guys show when you when I met you when you were only a couple of months in You were so determined and you believe so much. Could you visualize yourself like at the code red winter ball that we just had, at the time of this recording. We just had our annual Code Red winter ball, and it was like I couldn’t believe who I was looking at. But did you know that you were going to look like that? I was pretty amazed.

Sarah & Brandon  21:44

I actually I played basketball when I was younger, and I’m actually small. I’m in smaller sizes currently than I was then. So no, I couldn’t have even dreamed it. I didn’t think it was possible. The smallest I can remember myself being was when I was 19. coming out of high school, I was big in high school, I was bullied all through my school years. And then finally when I got to my senior year, I just kind of flip the switch and lost the weight in an unhealthy way. But I now currently weigh less than I did when I was 19. And I feel better than I did when I was 19. And, but when we went back then it was interesting because I feel like deep down I knew that this was it. And I also knew that this had to be it for me and for us, because at this point in our lives, our ages and thinking about you know, we have a code red gave us a vivid why in the road. And we can continue with what we know and what we’re doing and we understand where that leads because of the results. It’s provided this point or we can drastically change our routine and go ahead and learn something completely new and apply. And based upon the results we’re seeing with other people, we know this will change us. And we expect the results along the way, we knew that when we step on the scale and you know, over, you know, the, you know, obviously we weighed day today, but you know, you gotta just for body account for body fluctuations and things like that. But we knew that overall, we were going to see a drastic result of weight loss on a week to week basis. And so knowing that we knew we were going to lose the way because the results and the people the rebels before us, is testament to the results and we so we just believed it. And I don’t think we expected what we would look like or how fast we would get to this point, and how exciting life would become, but we believe that it would happen. It’s exciting to wake up and see what today has to offer.

Cristy  24:00

I know the Brandon when you posted when you and Sarah went shopping for your winter ball dress and then you posted a picture of the winter ball dress just her and her Dritan the dressing room. I mean, I almost dropped the phone, I could not believe it. I said, I live this every day and get that just such drastic changes happening so quickly for you guys, but you’re also very, very committed not only to the custom programs to your rules to your coaching group but to the community you guys are really involved. I mean you’re with me on Instagram, you’re with me on Facebook, you watch the YouTube of your like you watch the podcast, you really stay connected. How big of a factor is that for you guys?

Sarah & Brandon  24:39

I know for me personally, if I don’t start my day with you in the morning, it’s like something’s missing in my whole day just kind of like better like once I actually go on like the Facebook page and stuff but it’s like I need that extra like I love them. The energy and the motivation and just, I just Yeah, I just love all of it. It just it feels my fire. Yeah, I think back to when we were in our first challenge. And as we were going through the challenge every day, the new information that we were getting and being locked into absorbing as much as possible, I would recommend for anybody considering a challenge to allow yourself to be a student mindset and be a sponge to the information and just absorb as much as you can and take what makes sense. Apply what makes sense and then just watch the results happen. But we were Christie and the leaders out there today they This is a proven Do they know what’s going on, but I would say as we were finishing up the 10-pound takedown challenge. I was starting to get this sense of I don’t want to lose this connection and so many people that we were in the challenge with you know, we’ve watched them Post we’ve watched them have their ask their questions and get their answers. And then we’ve seen them a week later post, Hey, I just dropped another, you know, weight range. And you for me anyway, I started getting invested in people’s lives that I’ve never met before. And I didn’t want that to disappear and go away I wanted to stay connected with them. So then when we found out that we would get transferred to the code red life page as a part of completing the challenge, I was ecstatic but then all of a sudden being dropped in there and learning that it was over 20,000 other people that had gone through a challenge and was now in the life process was extremely encouraging and exciting and then seeing people’s stories and then having a wide range of rebels that have had success and that have been around for years and are there and support Answer questions and throw out tips and tricks and recipes and troubleshooting ideas and then masterfully talking about mindset and taking care of yourself and loving yourself. And this in the information is above and beyond any other program we have ever experienced. And so that connection to the life group is definitely a lifeline. It’s a place of inspiration. It’s a place of encouragement. And it’s a place where you can go and there is absolutely no judgment because we’re all connected on this similar line of health, weight management, and being better. I know every time I have a minute the day I’m instantly checking Instagram and Facebook and just, you know keeps me going through the day.

Cristy  27:50

You guys have talked about your life goals and things you want to accomplish together as a couple and have those changed. Since you know when you got married, and you had your You know, you discuss with your you said when you were dating and that whole process you were like this is the direction we want to go. Now that you have gotten healthy and are getting healthier every day, and you now you understand the importance of your health, have those life goals shifted and changed?

Sarah & Brandon  28:15

I think in a way they have a big way. Actually, I know before, whenever we would plan trips and stuff, it would be you know, revolving around what restaurants we want to go to what, like, what breweries or wineries or something we wanted to go to now we’re like, Where can we go that we can, you know, go hike that we can actually have alike we’re going to plan a trip for our 10 year anniversary next year to Hawaii and made sure that we have a kitchen so we can actually prepare our own food. Because we just don’t even want to deal with having all of that we would rather prepare it ourselves because we know how it’s being fixed if we’re doing it ourselves. And then also like, you know, being able to fit in an airplane seat. Now we can actually We look forward to maybe going to overseas and stuff because we won’t be like, super uncomfortable in those seats because he weighs over 300 pounds, and I’m close to 300 pounds. So, you know, things have definitely changed because now the options are endless, right?

So as far as life goes, you know, we’ve always wanted to own our own business and have maybe you could call it a little bit of control of our finances a little bit more than just clocking in clocking out and being at a company until they tell you not to come here anymore. You know that that financial security of, of owning your own business, but we’ve always we’ve done different things. You know, at one point, we had a garden and we actually sold produce to our co-workers. That was fun. Sarah is a photographer and so she has done photos for people for weddings and different events and things. I have to have a side hustle Yeah, so we did we readout of the house, I used to work in construction and one of my friends wanted to remodel a house that he owned and was renting out. And so that was a great project, a two-year project. So we’ve done a lot of different things. But we’ve never come across that one thing that we just felt was not only going to be good for us financially, but also filling, you know, and fulfilling our cup. And you know, at one point, I even thought about maybe starting my own brewery because I loved beer so much. But then I found having too much beer and what that did to me, and that’s not a fulfilling thing. So yeah, let’s pump the brakes on that. So you know, it’s a process of learning and figuring it out. And now here being a rebel with code read and seeing what it’s doing for people’s lives, seeing what it’s done for our life. You know, if the day comes where you would ask us if we would be interested in being coaches, I think that’s something that we could do. Definitely move forward on and be excited about helping push code read forward into the homes of people that desperately need it. And the people that are out there that are like us that knew we needed something, but we just did not know what it was, and help bring it to the people.

Cristy  31:20

So our story resonates with so many people and so many will hear this testimony. And I’ve definitely given keeping my eye on you, which is going to be funny when someday when we look back on this video and listen to ourselves visit when that becomes a reality. But the great thing is that there is no limit to what you can do now that you’re healthy, and that you have so much energy and so much hope. What would you guys say to people who are just thinking about joining a challenge thinking about dipping their toe into the lifestyle?

Sarah & Brandon  31:52

I would say don’t wait, like what do you have to lose at this point? I mean, so many people tried so many different things and They just kind of stay the same or they gain and why wait, like, go all in, give it your all at least for the 30 days, you will feel 10 times better. Be honest with yourself that you’re actually following the rules because if you follow the rules, you will feel better your inflammation will go down, your energy will go up, and you will just overall feel like a million bucks. So just do it. Yeah, there’s no reason to wait. Absolutely. And the only thing I can really add to that is to trust the process and trust those that have gone before you and let the fruit on the tree speak for itself. It’s not happenstance that the rebel community is growing as fast as it is. People are coming to the challenge. They’re living it for 30 days, they’re committing to it 100% and before they get all the way through, they’re ready to get a CP because they see them value in it. And it’s not anything that has to be sold. It is people recognizing the value of what they potentially can get their hands on. And my recommendation is to trust the process, and be a student and absorb as much information as you can get your money’s worth out of it every step of the way. And don’t take for granted this awesome opportunity to change your life that’s been placed in your hands.
