Still trying to do it “all on your own?”

Here’s the deal.

Long-term success at weight loss – or anything – doesn’t come from short-term thinking.

And temporary changes don’t lead to permanent results.

For example…

You don’t expect to stay clean after ONE shower.

You don’t expect your hair to stay at a length you want after one visit to the hairdresser. (Or in my case, a color you want!)

And you don’t expect your clothes to stay clean after running them through the washing machine ONE time.

So why is it you expect your weight to stay gone from changes in your diet and lifestyle that you treat as temporary?

Until you flip the switch in your brain from temporary “diet” to permanent new lifestyle and way of eating, you will continue to struggle with losing and keeping your weight off.

I know that when you’re used to depending on food to cope with life, bond with others, celebrate, and feel better in the moment, the concept of changing ANYTHING about your food and lifestyle habits can feel scary.

I get it.

And you know what I think is even scarier?

Looking in the mirror and hating what I see.

Feeling disappointed in myself while I’m shoving crap in my mouth that I KNOW disrupts my long-term goals.

Putting food on such a pedestal that it becomes more important to “eat what I want” than to be here for my loved ones for as long as possible and live in a body that’s healthy and actually works.

A few days back I told you about a lady who got one entire foot AND part of her leg amputated because, according to her, she “couldn’t give up her Life Savers.”

That’s what putting food on a pedestal looks like. That’s what food addiction looks like. That’s what I mean by “having a food problem.”

Obviously, we need food to survive.

And there’s nothing wrong with enjoying food.

But when food becomes more important than living long enough to see your grandkids grow up and get married…or than being able to stay in your dream home (instead of move because you’re too sick to climb the stairs)…or than being healthy enough to enjoy intimacy with your partner…

Then it’s a HUGE red flag that what you’re shoving in your pie hole is running your life.

As always, all I ask is that you be honest with yourself.

Are you putting food on a pedestal?

If you had to choose between never again eating “your favorite food” and getting an arm or leg cut off, which would YOU choose? For real?

If you know you wanna do better, but you’re struggling to do better, then maybe it’s time to stop trying to “do it all on your own.”

Saying that about losing weight and keeping it off is like getting lost in the woods and thinking you need to find the path out “all on your own” when there’s a guide with a map standing right there to help you.

Instead of wandering in the woods for even one more second, get connected to Code Red, and better yet, STAY connected.

If “doing it all on your own” was gonna work, don’t you think it would have by now?
