When people make assumptions about your weight loss journey

I was on my way to Salt Lake City recently when a lady standing next to me at the airport blurted out the following:

“Wow, you look so good. Your hair, your makeup, your dress, you’re just so polished and classy. Are you from California?”

My eyebrows shot to the top of my head. “No,” I replied.

“Oh,” she replied, surprised. “I just assumed you were from California because of the way you look.”

“I’m an Idaho farm girl,” I clarified. “Powered by potatoes.”

(We don’t eat potatoes in weight loss mode on Code Red. That’s just an expression.)

So to recap: because of my hair and how put together I look, she assumed I was from California. 🤷‍♀️

It reminds me of something one of my Rebels said on a recent Ringside chat with Cristy.

She was sharing about the holidays, and how some family members were encouraging her to cheat and “enjoy herself.”

She said to me, to paraphrase, “It’s funny how people assume you aren’t enjoying yourself if you’re eating healthily.”

Yep…as if the one and only way ever invented to “enjoy yourself” is to eat crap food.

I “enjoy” eating healthy Code Red foods. A lot of people do. They’re rich AND filling.

I also enjoy cute clothes that fit.

I enjoy not needing a seatbelt extender.

I enjoy feeling good in my own skin.

I enjoy wearing tight clothes I feel sexy in.

I enjoy not having to take medication for type two diabetes.

Seriously, there’s a LOT to enjoy in life.

Food is ONE of millions of things we get to enjoy.

Other people may assume you can’t enjoy yourself if you’re not going “free for all” with your food intake.

Heck, YOU might assume that, too.

But it’s not reality. It’s just a belief people hold onto.

Now, I DEFINITELY get how easy it is to forget all the other things we get to enjoy when we’re facing a bag of chips or a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies.

But do it anyway. Remember all the OTHER things you wanna enjoy in life. Heck, make a list of those other things.

Use it to remind you that there’s more than “how much I can eat whenever I feel like it.”
