What if simple meals bore me?

If you hate cooking, or don’t mind it but don’t love it, the way we eat on Code Red probably appeals to you. It’s SUPER simple.

I know it appeals to me! I don’t ever cook myself gourmet meals. It takes too long.

I also know not everyone’s like me, in that they do like gourmet meals.

They also get bored with simple, and want variety.

If you’re someone who “needs variety,” and thinks you have to get it from food, here are a couple tips that might help.

First of all, Code Red is about getting your weight off as quickly AND safely as possible.

That means we’re gonna have you remove foods that stall weight loss in most people. It means you drink water and sleep. It means you keep meals simple, because most people lose weight faster with simple meals.

If complicated gourmet meals are more sustainable for you, even if it takes twice as long to get your weight off compared with simple meals, just understand what you’re in for.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably spend years, decades, or even your whole life trying to get and keep the weight off.

Making meals simpler isn’t really that much of a sacrifice compared with spending even more time trying to lose weight. Let’s stop trying and get it done!

Second, you can add variety by using seasonings, or doing things like keeping the same meat but swapping out the veggies. It’s not that hard to add a little variety to simple meals.

Third, look for non-food ways to bring variety into your life.

Food’s an easy way to create variety, but it’s far from the only way.

Step back and take a bigger picture view of your life. Where you can you add some variety outside of what you eat?

When you can bring variety into other areas of your life, you may not care as much about food variety as you think.

Once you get the weight off, and you want to make meals more complicated again, that’s an option (as long as it doesn’t lead to weight regain).

But to get the weight off quickly AND safely, simple meals work better. If you make some complicated dish and your weight goes up the next day, you won’t know which ingredient did it.

If your meals are simpler, it’ll be easier to identify the culprit.

Bottom line: Complicated meals = slower weight loss. If you choose to stick with complicated, be sure you’re okay with the price you pay (slower weight loss).
