What if I secretly don’t WANT to stay on track on my trips?

Summer travel season is right around the corner, which means trips, which means facing the “typical” behavior on trips of abandoning all discipline to “have fun” and get outside your normal routine…

And everything that goes along with it. For most people, that means abandoning your healthy eating.

So if you secretly don’t WANT to stay on track on trips, well, that’s not much of a secret!

But I get what you mean. You know you “should” stay on track so you can get this weight off and learn how to keep it off, but part of you really doesn’t want to.

You want to do what you usually do on trips, which is to eat (and perhaps drink) whatever you feel like, whether it’s healthy or not.

Maybe you’re even telling yourself, “Just this once. I’ll get on track when I get home.”

If so, let me ask you this:

Do you have a pattern of getting right back on track when you cave to the “just this once” mindset?

Or does just this once become twice, three times, ten times, or one hundred times, all with you constantly telling yourself “just this once?” (Which is a lie you’re telling yourself, by the way, if you do it more than once.)

Another question for you: Do you want the weight off, or not?

If your answer is “Yes, BUT…” that is the same as a no. “Yes, BUT” is you prioritizing something else over your weight loss.

If you don’t really want your weight off, or you wanna prioritize something else in your life, then be honest with yourself about it.

If you DO want the weight off, does going off the rails for a trip move you closer to that goal, or further from it?

You’ve spent a LOT of time in weight loss mode already. If it were me, I’d wanna be done having to lose the same 50 or 100 pounds over and over and over. If that meant staying on track with my eating on trips, I’d do it, so it could be DONE.

Then I’d learn how to navigate trips in a way that helps me maintain my weight loss, instead of pack it all back on.

Yes, it would be different than it was before, but to get a different result than you’ve had before, you’ve gotta do things differently.

You’d probably love for me to tell you that “it’s fine” to go hog-wild with your eating and drinking on your trip, but I’m not gonna do that.

Instead, I’d love to see you honor your word to YOU…by actually following through with your commitment to stay on track.

Returning home bloated and ten pounds up isn’t you honoring your word to you. It’s you breaking your word to you.

If you wanna go that route again, it’s totally your call.

On Code Red, I like to say, “Do what’s right for you.”

So ask yourself: Is abandoning your Code Red eating really what’s right for you?
