How about seeing what happens when you DON’T quit

“Cristy, I’m scared I’ll just quit again!”

I hear that from people who’re thinking of joining the Code Red Lifestyle™.

It takes guts to admit that, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are even more people thinking it who haven’t said it out loud.

I’m a pretty black and white person, so somebody saying they’re scared they’ll quit – as if they have no control over it – doesn’t resonate with me. In my world, you do it or you don’t do it.

But I get that not everyone’s black and white about it.

I also get that knowing what to do, and actually doing it, don’t always go hand in hand. Our brain’s survival wiring and chemical reactions often compete with what our conscious mind wants or thinks. That’s true even for “black and white” people like me.

Some examples of what I’m talking about:

“I know eating that cookie will make me fatter and sicker, but I really want it, so I’m gonna eat it.”

“I know I’ll never lose my weight and keep it off if I keep binging, yet part of me wants to keep binging, so I do.”

I’m sure you get it, and probably live it, in some way, on a daily basis. Me, too.

So what’s the answer, here? What does it take to get the result you want, instead of sabotaging yourself into quitting yet again?

It starts with your BELIEF.

If you believe you’ll quit, you probably will (or, you’re at least a lot more likely to), especially since you’ve got all this past evidence of you quitting to support your belief.

But I bet you haven’t quit EVERY single thing you’ve ever done, right?

Did you quit learning how to drive? Did you quit being a parent? Did you quit going to the bathroom?

There’s a TON of stuff in your life you haven’t quit. Or, if you did, you came back to it.

Instead of focusing on all the times you quit, focus on all the times you stuck with it. Since what you focus on gets bigger, focus on the things you’ve stuck with. Get into how that feels, and let that guide you you into joining and sticking with the Code Red Lifestyle™.

You’ve stuck with being a parent, so you can join and stick with Code Red.

You’ve stuck with going to the bathroom, so you can join and stick with Code Red.

Those are just general examples. If they work for you, use them. You can also use something else that’s more personal to YOU.

You’ve stayed committed to all kinds of stuff in your life. I know you have.

That means you can stay committed to TAKING YOUR LIFE BACK.
