What Do I Eat? August 17, 2019

One of the most common questions I get is, “Cristy, how should I eat when I’m exercising?”

My answer?

It depends on your goals.

Are you eating to lose weight (which you don’t need exercise to do)? Or are you a Michael Phelps-level athlete who trains 5 hours a day?

Because eating for weight loss and eating for performance are far from each other as the east is from the west.

Plus, when your body is fat-adapted, and fueling you with ketone bodies instead of glucose, your performance will be better just because of that (once your body fully adjusts to fat-burning mode). Fat is a MUCH more efficient and abundant fuel source than glucose.

I exercise almost every day. And I don’t eat any differently on exercise days than on non-exercise days.

In this week’s What Do I Eat? I’d just returned from a run. Click below to see what I ate. It’s what I’d have eaten even if I hadn’t run.
