Jules at Massage WoRx (a place in the Boise area) has been giving me a 90-minute full body massage every Friday for two years (at the time of this post).
I believe that this was a big reason why I was able to accomplish that enormous goal for my film: “Code Red – Diaries of Madness.”
The consistent deep tissue work each week kept my body nimble, supple and free from soreness. Plus, I absolutely love Jules and enjoy every minute with her each week.
I make time for these massages and create room in my budget because they are important to me.
I often hear people say that they WISH they could do this for themselves (get a massage), but they can’t afford it or don’t have time.
And I see those same folks dropping over $100 at Texas Roadhouse every weekend, ordering GrubHub every other day and making sure they stop at Starbucks for their favorite drink on their way to work each morning. I see them spend time constantly scrolling through TikTok and mindlessly watching Netflix.
The reality is that it’s not about the time, and it’s not about the money. It never was and it never will be.
It’s truly about what YOU value, and you will indeed find the money and find the time for what matters MOST to you.
That’s why I’m challenging you to start saying, “I don’t value that enough to spend the time and money on it” instead of “I can’t afford that” or “I don’t have time,” because that’s EXACTLY what it is. You don’t VALUE it enough.
And if you don’t, that’s totally fine. I’m not telling you that you “should” start getting massages.
I’m saying that if there’s something you want to do with your time and money, but you aren’t doing it, stop saying you don’t have time and you “can’t” afford it.
People “afford” and spend time on what they prioritize.
When you want something badly ENOUGH…when you make it ENOUGH of a priority…isn’t it funny how you find a way to make it work?
THAT is what I’m talking about here.
Whether it’s getting a message, joining a Code Red program, or buying healthy food instead of taking another trip through the Carl’s Jr. drive-thru, you prioritize what YOU decide is important ENOUGH to prioritize.
“I can’t afford it” and “I don’t have time” are both victim mindsets that trap you in your circumstances.
“I don’t value that enough to come up with the time and money to do it” is an empowered mindset that puts you in charge. They’re you taking ownership of your choices instead of abdicating your personal power to outside circumstances.
If you’re sick of feeling helpless or out of control in your life, this shift is one of THE most powerful things you can do. Your words are powerful, and so are the ways you think about things.
Be honest with yourself about WHY you are (or aren’t) spending time or money on stuff you say you want.
It’s not because you “don’t have time” or “can’t afford it.”
It’s because you don’t value it ENOUGH to find a way to make it work.
Either be okay with that, or commit to figuring out HOW to make it happen cap’n.
When you stop limiting what’s possible, it’s astonishing how often you can find a way
