The Problem With Keto

The Code Red Lifestyle™ is often labeled as and confused with “keto.”

So are Code Red and keto the same thing or not?

What is “keto?”

First of all, I wanna make sure you understand what “keto” is.

Keto stands for ketosis or ketogenic, depending on the usage.

Ketosis, known as fat-burning mode, occurs in your body when you reduce your intake of sugar and carbs to under a certain amount of grams per day, and you increase the amount of dietary fat you consume.

When that happens, your body switches from burning glucose for fuel to burning ketone bodies for fuel. In other words, you’re in fat-burning mode.

Ketones are a much cleaner, steadier, more effective source of energy for your body, so you’re able to drop a lot of body fat while in ketosis.

Code Red vs. keto

As for the differences between Code Red and the typical keto diet:

1) Keto keeps the percentage of your daily caloric intake at 75% fat.

That’s not automatically a bad thing, but on Code Red, we find that keeping your fat that high often requires sacrificing something else, and the first thing people sacrifice is usually vegetables.

Vegetables are packed with nutrients and fiber, and important to a healthy lifestyle.

So, to prevent my Rebels from sacrificing veggies, I have my clients make fat 60% of their intake, instead of 75%. That way they’re eating enough fat to enter ketosis (“fat-burning mode”), but not so much they’re sacrificing veggies trying to hit that 75% fat mark.

2) Another difference between Code Red and keto is dairy.

On Code Red, we do allow a little full-fat dairy, like heavy whipping cream, but we do not allow cheese.

The keto diet does allow cheese. So why is that a problem?

Because cheese is SOOOO easy to overeat, and since the volume of food matters, cheese can and will stall your weight loss.

Plus, dairy is inflammatory, and inflammation is the root cause of disease, so we want to do everything we can to minimize inflammation in the body.

Bull crap marketing gimmicks

Another problem with keto is the way the diet, food, and fitness industries have corrupted it with bull crap marketing gimmicks.

Thanks to their antics, people have become conditioned to see the word “keto” and assume something is a healthier choice, or worse, that they “need” it to succeed at weight loss.

(Some examples: Keto coffee, keto mushroom mixes, keto fat bombs, even keto Slim-Fast!)

But that is just NOT the case, and I cannot get on board with it.

I teach people to eat real food, and my clients lose astonishing amounts of weight with normal food they find at the grocery store.

They don’t have to or need to screw with processed “keto” foods, or keto shakes, or keto pills.
