Tomorrow is Thanksgiving! I’m a big believer in expressing gratitude, and that’s my favorite part of this holiday.
Like a lot of our holidays, gatherings, and special events, Thanksgiving revolves around a giant meal.
It’s also the unofficial kickoff to holiday baking, which means sugary treats coming at you left and right (perhaps even in your own home!).
Staying on track through the holidays is 100% choice, but the mistake I see so many people make is choosing to rely on willpower instead of choosing to make a plan and stick with it.
There are many things you can do to stay on track during the holidays.
The #1 thing I encourage all my Rebels to do is take control of your situation, whatever it is, instead of leaving yourself at the mercy of your circumstances.
So what do I mean by take control?
If you’ll be at someone else’s house, make a Code Red-approved dish to bring. That way you can be sure you’ll have approved food available.
Also talk to the host ahead of schedule about your needs and ask whether any of the food they’re fixing will work for you.
If you’re on a custom program, stay on it! Bring your own pre-logged, weighed and measured food and enjoy that.
Thanksgiving will come around next year. Get your weight off so you can enjoy next year’s holiday in maintenance.
What can I have that’s Code Red-approved?
When it comes to your Thanksgiving meal, if you’re in weight loss mode, there are plenty of foods you can eat that are Code Red-approved.
Turkey and most veggies are safe.
You can also make your own Code Red versions of foods that clearly not approved for weight loss mode.
For example, instead of stuffing made with bread, use cauliflower!
You can also use cauliflower to make cauliflower mashed “fauxtatoes.”
Sweet potatoes aren’t approved for weight loss mode, but if you’re making them for someone else, use real butter and some stevia or monk fruit sweetener instead of piling on the brown sugar and marshmallows.
Cranberries aren’t Code Red approved, so skip them this year, or use one of the approved berries instead.
For more Thanksgiving success tips, check out the video I did below on KTVB in Boise.
The bottom line here is that prepared Rebels are successful Rebels.
Never leave your success up to “luck” or willpower. Make a plan and follow it!
