If you’re not doing this, you won’t lose weight

Sleep! It’s my number one rule in weight loss.

You can do everything else right, but if you’re not sleeping at least seven hours a night, you won’t lose weight.

In fact, study after study proves that lack of sleep can make you gain weight.

Your body senses a lack of sleep as stress. Stress is not a state we’re meant to live in all the time, because it’s very damaging to our bodies long-term.

It leads to everything from sugar cravings, weight gain (our bodies hang on to body fat when we’re stressed), low energy, and memory problems, to high blood pressure, depression, diabetes, and even brain damage and dementia.

The right amount of proper sleep brings those cortisol levels down, but that’s not the only benefit to a good night’s sleep.

Our bodies use the time we’re asleep to fix themselves.

They regulate our hormone levels, weight, and moods; and they heal and repair us.

In fact, our bodies do their best healing when we’re asleep!

Depriving yourself of sleep is depriving your body of that crucial time it needs to heal and repair, so it’s always several steps behind, struggling to heal you and protect you.

And without that 7 to 9 full hours of quality sleep every night, your body will fall further and further behind.

Your sleep has to be a priority if you want weight loss and optimal health. You can bet I guard my sleep religiously, even if it means ruffling a few feathers.

Protect your sleep. Make it a priority. Your weight loss efforts, your moods, your health, your appetite – they’ll all be the better for it!
