Should you blindly listen to your doctor?

Am I a fan of listening to your doctor?

Yes.

Am I a fan of blindly listening to your doctor?

No.

Please understand what I’m about to say is not medical advice.

What I’m doing in this post is encouraging you to treat your doctor as a partner in your health, not the dictator of your health…especially when it comes to dietary advice.

Most traditionally trained medical doctors get less than 15 hours of nutrition training (for some, it’s even less). And what training they do get is all about the bullcrap food pyramid (our country’s health began to decline when the government adopted the food pyramid guidelines, and it’s not a coincidence).

I have a lot of respect for doctors, and I LOOOVE nurses (and wanted to be one at one point). I’m so glad we have doctors to turn to.

But I don’t think you should turn your brain off just because you’re talking to a doctor.

Ask questions. Get the information you need to understand what’s happening.

If you have doubts, get a second opinion, or a third.

Be an advocate for your own health. No one’s gonna care more about it than you, and you’ve got to take some responsibility for it.

As a country, we’ve gotten into this bad habit of blindly accepting what the medical establishment tells us.

For example, I’ve had Rebels whose doctor told them they couldn’t lose weight because being fat was “just how they’re built,” that is it’s not possible to reverse type 2 diabetes.

That is SUCH bullcrap, and my Rebels have the results to prove it.

Yes, listen to your doctor. Yes, work with your doctor.

AND, consider your doctor a partner in your health, and work with them, rather than blindly accepting every word out of their mouth.

Same with anyone (yes, including me!). Do your own research, try stuff out for yourself, and decide what’s right for YOU.
