Should I be testing my ketone levels on Code Red?

If you’ve heard of the “keto diet,” you’ve probably heard about ketones, and that you should be checking them to see if you’re in ketosis.

Code Red is not keto (though we are a form of high-fat, low-carb living), yet when people come to Code Red, some ask about monitoring their ketone levels.

On Code Red, that is NOT something we worry about. Why?

Because it adds another layer of complication that, quite frankly, isn’t necessary to worry about when you follow the Code Red plan as instructed.

It doesn’t mean checking your ketone levels has zero value, EVER (provided you do it via blood testing, NOT the urine strips), but again, it is NOT part of weight loss mode on the Code Red Lifestyle™.

There are plenty of people out there making weight loss either seem so “effortless” that it can’t possibly be healthy or sustainable long-term (these are the gimmicks and quick fixes of the weight loss world), or so complicated that you have to spend thousands of dollars per month on testing equipment, medical tests, and specialty foods for complicated recipes.

Can gimmicks and super complicated weight loss methods work?

Yes. You can get at least some weight off doing almost anything.

The better questions to ask yourself are simply these:

1 – Do you REALLY wanna make weight loss that freaking complicated?

2 – Do you REALLY wanna waste more time and money on bullcrap gimmicks?

If the answers are yes to those two questions, Code Red’s not your program, and that’s fine. There are plenty out there to choose from.

If your answers are NO, then Code Red might be the answer you’ve been searching for, provided you are:

  • Truly ready to change. We’re not a program for people who are kinda sorta ready to change. That’s being the same as not ready to change. Temporary changes lead to temporary results. That’s a diet gimmick mentality, and it’s not what we’re about. We’re a program for people who’ve had enough of being fat and sick, and are ready to stop living that way once and for all, by changing from what they’re doing that’s not working, to real food, water, sleep, and a few simple rules.
  • Ready to really LISTEN. If you’ve got everything figured out, you probably wouldn’t be reading this, but just in case it needs to be said…if you’re obese and sick, yet think you “know better,” you’re not gonna be successful on Code Red (or any program).
  • Committed to working the program. The program works when you work the program. When I say work the program, what I mean is very simple: Follow 100% of the rules and foods 100% of the time, no excuses and no exceptions. If you aren’t willing to do that, your results will suffer, just like with ANYTHING you try to do. Half-assing a program leads to half-assed results.

Ketone testing is not a part of the program. In maintenance, if you wanna do blood ketone testing, we can talk about it.

But in weight loss mode, we keep it simple, with real food, water, sleep, and a few simple rules.
