Make it about the memories

Ever notice that everything we do revolves around food?

Birthday parties. Game nights. Weddings. Sports events. Office parties. Even funerals! Most major holidays involve gorging ourselves on food and alcohol.

For some people it’s unthinkable we might be able to enjoy the company of friends and family without food being the center of the universe.

Ten years down the road, is your daughter gonna care whether you ate cake and drang champagne at her wedding? Of course not! All she’s gonna remember is that you were there, celebrating with her.

Same thing at grandma’s funeral. Is anyone going to remember whether you took a helping of every casserole? No way! They’ll remember you showed up to support them and mourn their loss.

If it’s “tradition” for your family to eat a bunch of junk food at get togethers, try a new tradition. Play cards. Or board games. Or build a 1,000 piece puzzle. Whatever you like to do as a family that does NOT revolve around food.

I bet you’ll find it’s just as fun. And you get to end the day without sugar rushes and tummy aches.
