Because the Code Red Lifestyle™ is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate way of eating, it’s often labeled as a ketogenic diet.
There are some distinctive differences between Code Red and keto, yet they have a few things in common, including the fact they both put your body into a state of nutritional ketosis (not to be confused with diabetic ketoacidosis).
Being in a state of nutritional ketosis means your body using ketones (fat) for fuel instead of glucose (sugar).
I’m often asked what I think about keto testing trips, which are supposed to tell you whether you’re in a state of nutritional ketosis.
For the Code Red Lifestyle™, I don’t require, or event want, my clients to use keto test trips. So why is that?
Some keto testing strips strips measure the amount of ketones in your blood, and some measure the amount of ketones in your urine, but the problem is, urine trips only measure the excess amount of ketones.
That means they’ll only show you in ketosis when you first start eating high-fat and low-carbohydrate, because your body will eventually become efficient at burning ketones.
In other words, there won’t be any excess ketones to measure, so urine strips will tell you that you aren’t in ketosis, and you very well could be.
The meters which test your blood for ketones are far more accurate, but before you race out and buy a keto monitor that tests your blood, keep reading:
The Code Red Lifestyle™ is about keeping things simple. Eat real food, drink water, and sleep.
It’s not going to improve your life to have some expensive meter with expensive strips tell you whether or not you’re in ketosis.
And it sure as heck isn’t gonna improve your weight loss.
What it will do is add a layer of complication you don’t need, not to mention add a completely unnecessary expense to your bank balance.
So instead of spending money on keto testing strips, spend it on real food, a sleep aid, a copy of my book, The Code Red Revolution – something that’ll actually help you reach your weight loss goals.
My tens of thousands of Code Red Rebels didn’t need ketone strips to lose their weight, and neither do you!
