Saturday I headed to my cabin for a couple of days, and for some reason got to thinking about the one time I got lost in the woods in the Tamarack Resort area (which is where my cabin is located).
It was years ago, and I was with Annabelle (my late dog). I walked a total of nine miles figuring out how to get back to familiar territory.
I knew where I wanted to go…but because I didn’t know where I was, I had no idea how to get there.
Whether it’s weight loss or something else, when you get “lost in the woods”…or even if you just wanna be sure you’re on the right path…
Step one is to take stock of where you are.
When we apply this to weight loss, taking stock might look something like this:
Are you halfway to goal? At goal? Further from goal than ever?
Are you nailing the basics?
Are you drinking your water?
Getting your sleep?
Getting on the scale?
Eating from the “foods to eat side” of the Code Red foods list?
Whatever you’re doing (or not doing), take stock of it. Write it down.
Then take a few minutes to get clear on where you want to be instead.
Don’t just say you want to be “at goal weight” or whatever. Get super specific on where you want to be. Really flesh it out.
What will it look like when you’ve reached that specific goal? What will it feel like? What will it sound like?
How, exactly, will you KNOW you’re there?
Get clear on where you are now, then get clear on where you wanna be.
Connect those dots, and like finding me way out of the woods that one time, you’ll know exactly how to get to where you wanna be (instead of “lost in the woods”).
