The flight attendant gasped and threw her cupped hands over her mouth as she stared at me.
“Cristy Code Red??” she exclaimed. “I can’t believe it’s really you!”
“Yes, hi!” I replied, happy to meet her. “Are you one of my Rebels?”
“Yes! Or, well, I was. My friends and I did your program a couple years ago. We all lost weight and we felt great!”
“Oh, good!” I exclaimed. “Still doing good?”
“Well…I was, but…we all quit following the program and gained back the weight we lost. You know how it goes. Life happened.”
😬
I’m SO glad this flight attendant spoke up, and it was great to talk to her.
It wasn’t great to hear that she quit following the program.
But unfortunately, it happens sometimes.
People who quit living the Code Red Lifestyle™ are still thinking of it as something temporary they DO, instead of a way of life they LIVE and who they ARE now.
That “temporary sacrifice” mindset is sneaky.
Your mind tricks you into thinking that you can just do things differently “for now,” then go back to whatever you feel like when you get what you want.
If you don’t want to KEEP the results you got, that’s certainly something you can do.
If you DO want to keep them, temporary thinking won’t cut it.
Temporary thinking is exactly why diets don’t work long-term.
They’re about a temporary sacrifice instead of showing up in your life as the kind of person who has the result you say you want (in this case, keeping the weight off).
And what a lot of people end up doing is fighting for their old ways instead of fighting for their new way.
They fight for their excuses instead of fighting to keep their results.
“Cristy, why does it have to be a fight?”
Because most change is hard.
But it’s also hard to regain a bunch of weight and feel helpless to ever lose it again.
It’s hard to feel so hopeless and beaten down that you stop caring about your own wellbeing.
Either way, you are navigating something that’s hard.
That’s why Code Red Rebels pick our hard.
As in, pick the hard of fighting for your results instead of fighting for your excuses.
Pick the hard of mastering the holidays instead of being jerked around by them.
And pick the hard of starting the new year at the same size (or lower) instead of carrying an extra 10, 20, or 30 pounds.
There’s hard stuff either way.
The only question is, are you sick enough of the old hards to pick the new ones?
