Do I really HAVE to give up sugar for life?

When people new to Code Red see that we stop eating sugar in weight loss mode, for some, panic sets in.

If they’re so sick and tired of being sick and tired that they’ll do whatever it takes, they stick it out and go on to lose a ton of weight, feel better, and decide sugar isn’t worth it.

If they’re not ready for things to be different, on the other hand, they start screwing around (even if part of them does want to change), because the thought of giving up sugar is unimaginable.

It’s the same for anyone who’s addicted to anything, or even just so dependent on a substance, behavior, or activity that the thought of not having it is scary.

Look, I get it, and most people do.

We all have AT LEAST one thing we feel dependent on in some way, and for you, maybe that’s sugar.

So to answer your question, do you HAVE to give up sugar for life?

Well, should an alcoholic give up alcohol for life?

And how about a drug addict? Should a drug addict give up drugs for life?

It’s hard to admit being an addict of any kind. No one wants to see themselves that way.

Plus, while sugar devastates the heck out of you personally, in some ways there’s less collateral damage from sugar addiction than there is from drug and alcohol addiction.

Whether or not you give up sugar for life is up to you. People who aren’t sugar addicts can do a little here and a little there and not lose control…but their numbers are dwindling because the amount of sugar in our lives is increasing.

In other words, “sugar in moderation” is harder and harder for even non-sugar addicts to do, because sugar is eight times more addictive than heroin, and it’s EVERYWHERE.

The idea of giving up sugar for life is pretty daunting, isn’t it?

If part of you knows it’d be healthier for you to do exactly that, but the idea of never eating anything sweet again is overwhelming, here’s a way to think of it that might be easier to wrap your mind around.

DON’T give up sugar “for life.”

Just refuse to eat any today.

Then, when you wake up tomorrow, tell yourself, again, “I don’t know about giving up sugar for life, but it’s not an option today.”

Take it one day at a time.

One day at a time is how people who are going through HORRIBLE things find the strength to get up and go through their day.

You can certainly use it to win against sugar!
