On the Code Red Lifestyle™, we eat a diet lower in carbohydrates, higher in healthy fats, and with moderate amounts of protein.
In weight moss mode, especially, eating this way means eliminating foods that I’ve found stall weight loss in most people, and/or spike blood sugar.
This includes really starchy foods, like rice and potatoes.
“But Cristy, I love rice and potatoes!”
Do you love ’em more than losing your weight and keeping it off?
Besides, when you learn the delicious power of cauliflower, you won’t miss them anymore!
I know, cauliflower just looks like white broccoli, and if you only eat it raw or boiled, with no seasoning, it’s not very exciting.
But when you get even a tiny bit creative, cauliflower is super versatile AND delicious. I’ll give you a couple of examples:
Cauliflower mashed potatoes. Boil a head of cauliflower until it’s soft (cut the stem off first), let it cool enough that you can touch it without burning yourself but it’s still warm, cut it into smaller pieces, and then squeeze all the water out of it.
Again, make sure it’s cooled enough that you can safely touch it! Using a clean towel to wring it out can help get more water out.
Next, blend it in a blender, with foods like full-fat cream cheese, butter, and/or heavy whipping cream, until it’s got the consistency of mashed potatoes.
You don’t necessarily need all three of those ingredients, but use your favorite(s) to help thicken it. (If you’re vegan, try coconut cream.)
Remember to season your cauliflower mashed potatoes! Salt and pepper at least. Garlic powder and onion powder are great, too.
Riced cauliflower. A lot of stores carry cauliflower rice in the frozen veggies or fresh vegetables section. You can also make your own with a head of cauliflower and a food processor.
Riced cauliflower, as the name suggests, can be used for for stir-frying and other dishes where you’d normally use rice.
Or, put it in a saucepan with a couple ounces of cream cheese, seasonings, and some other veggies, and it’s like you’re eating something warm and cheesy!
If you need more ideas for using cauliflower in place of potatoes, rice, dips, and even pasta, my third edition Code Red Cookbook has over a dozen mouth-watering cauliflower recipes that include:

If you’re used to living off of starchy, high-carb foods like grains, potatoes, and rice, don’t assume switching to the Code Red Lifestyle™ means you don’t get to eat anything delicious.
Meat, vegetables (like cauliflower), nuts, eggs, seeds, seafood, and dietary fat are not only healthy, they’re more delicious than you’d ever guess.
