“But it’s just this once!” (Except, is it really?)

It’s hard to believe, but we’re headed into the holidays soon.

And after the holidays comes another New Year…

Where people make New Year’s Resolutions, like “lose weight,” then take a pill, drink a shake, get shots, or hit the gym for two weeks.

Then the excitement and newness wears off, and those comfy old habits are right there waiting for you, lulling you back into what you were doing before.

The craziest part is, so many people fall into that same pattern year after year: Make a resolution, work toward it for two weeks, then drop it.

But here’s the thing.

The dropping it isn’t an instant decision.

Most people don’t suddenly throw their hands up in the air and go, “Not happening! I’m done!”

Instead, they give themselves an inch.

“I’ll just have one bite.”

“I’ll just have pizza this once.”

“I’ll just have ice cream tonight. Tomorrow I’ll get back on track.”

Except it’s not just once.

Just once becomes just twice, just three times, just four times, and the next thing you know, you’re completely off track, and completely unmotivated to resume moving toward your goal.

That’s why it is SO critical to crush those “just once” moments.

Often it takes outside accountability, like a friend you can check in with, or a community of people who’ll support you.

Rewarding yourself for staying on track is another great option (but remember, not with food!).

Listen, anyone can succeed when they feel motivated and inspired. And if that’s how you’re feeling, great!

But far more important is staying on track in those moments when you DON’T feel like it.

Each time you stay on track when you don’t feel like it, you prove to yourself that you’re serious, and that you can trust yourself.

Each time you cave to “just once,” on the other hand, you’re sending a message to yourself that you don’t want this, you don’t care, and you cannot trust yourself.

You are MORE than capable of making that shift within yourself…

AND for most people, it’s pretty tough to do all on their own.

If you’re used to caving to that voice, then surround yourself with a community who can help you drown out the “just one bite” voice…a community like the Code Red community.
