Why avoiding the scale won’t fix your health (or weight)

A lot of “health professionals” in the world – from doctors, to fitness experts, to psychologists, and more – make it sound like a bad thing to “fixate” on your weight.

“You’re more than a number!” they cry.

Well yeah, obviously you’re more than a number.

And no, it’s not a great thing to be SO fixated on your weight that it ruins your life.

But does that mean that the answer for everyone, across the board, is to totally ignore your weight?

Not in my book.

I see weight as one metric to measure your health…

Just like your blood pressure, your blood sugar levels, your bone density, your A1C, your vision, your dental health, and so on.

We measure all those things and don’t bat an eye. Doctors aren’t accused of “blood sugar shaming” (yet, anyway) if they warn you your blood sugar is high.

So why is it that measuring your weight is so demonized?

And why do we tie our worth and value up in that number?

Better question…how to you take your power back from that number, so you can finally realize how much power you actually have to do something about how crappy you feel…how unhappy with yourself you may be…and about the “unhealth” legacy you’re leaving for your family?

For most people, it’s not gonna be throwing out the scale.

Next time you read about someone telling you to throw out the scale and “love yourself,” consider this…

Do you think they’d say “throw out the blood glucose monitor and love yourself” if your blood sugars were through the roof and you had to have a foot amputated?

Of course not! It’s ridiculous to even consider!

And yet, we do it with the scale.

Loving yourself and glancing at a number on a scale for 2 seconds every morning aren’t mutually exclusive.

Plus, if you’re hiding from that number, you’re not really hiding from that number. You’re hiding from whatever you think it means about YOU.

Don’t like it? Wish it were different?

Then stop sticking your head in the sand…

Because the way to take your power back isn’t to keep hiding.

It’s to turn and face whatever you’re avoiding…

And TAKE YOUR LIFE BACK.
