Human beings almost can’t help but compare ourselves with others, and I have yet to see it cause anything but pain and suffering.
You can learn from other people, sure. You can also be inspired by them.
But that’s not the same thing as destructively comparing yourself to them, and feeling deprived and less than because you aren’t where or who they are.
I see this more than I’d like on Code Red when it comes to people’s rate of weight loss.
On a Custom Program, you can expect to lose at least 1% of your body weight every week. Many people lose more than that. It depends on how carefully you follow the program rules and your custom numbers.
Same with the challenge, The Code Red Revolution book, or anything you do with Code Red: The more meticulously you follow it (especially the simple basics), the better your results.
Even so, there will be differences, for this one unavoidable reason:
Our bodies are different! They have certain things in common, obviously, but we’re also incredibly unique.
For that reason alone, your rate of loss will be different than other people’s.
Some other factors that influence your rate of loss:
- – How accurately and consistently you follow the rules
- – Whether you’re on mediation
- – How much weight you have to lose
- – How many times you’ve gained your weight back over the years
- – The foods you eat
- – The quantity of food you eat
- – The times of day you eat
- – How stressed out you are
- – Whether you have other health problems (and which ones)
- – The quality AND quantity of your sleep
See what I’m saying?
There are SO many factors. Some apply to everyone, but some don’t, which is why it makes no sense whatsoever for you to compare your rate of loss to someone else’s.
Not only that, comparing your rate of loss to other people’s sucks the motivation out of you like a ravenous vampire.
You could drop four pounds in a week, but because so-and-so dropped 6.5 pounds, you feel inadequate, give up, pig out, and put those four pounds right back on.
Absolutely do NOT compare your rate of weight loss with other people’s.
Instead, focus on YOU.
Are you following all the basics to the letter? Don’t just assume you are – revisit every single rule and double check you’re following it EXACTLY, every single day.
(Example: Getting six hours of sleep instead of seven or more is not following the rules exactly.)
The more you focus on mastering your own journey, the better your rate of loss will be.
So stop comparing yourself to other people, okay? If anything, allow their rate of loss to inspire you. It’s not something you have to live up to or you’re a failure.
Focus on YOUR path in this process. That’s how you’ll get the best, safest results for YOU.
