What to do when you’re overwhelmed

Every so often I visit my sister, Cari, in Kentucky to see her and help out.

I even went while still in training for my bodybuilding comeback, and kept up my bodybuilding training.

I also practiced posing and walking in my super high competition heels.

None of it was convenient, but it had to be done, so I did it.

Sometimes we overcomplicate the crap out of stuff that just isn’t complicated…like whether or not it’s “convenient” to do what we know will get us the result we want.

Want the weight gone?

Do what it takes.

It really is that simple (even though it doesn’t always feel that simple).

Part of the problem is that we often start focusing on the WHOLE picture and how far we have to go, instead of just what we need to do today.

Long-term, big-picture goals are great to have.

But if you’re the type of person to get overwhelmed and jump ship when you see “how far you have to go,” here’s a simple way to dial it back and make progress:

Use micro goals.

Instead of freaking out because you have 207 pounds to lose, focus on TODAY’S actions. Focus on getting in your water, dialing in your sleep, and eating Code Red-approved foods in reasonable quantities.

Tomorrow, focus on those same things.

Focus on your next 3 pounds. Heck, focus on 1 pound at a time if it helps.

The bottom line is: to get out of overwhelm and into action, stop focusing on “how far you have to go” and focus just on your NEXT best step.

For you, that might be getting back on the scale every morning.

It might be getting your water in by 5:00 instead of finishing at 9:00.

Whatever YOUR next best step is, take it, and then focus on the next best step after that, one step at a time…

Because one step at a time is how everyone gets to their next finish line, overwhelm or no overwhelm.
