Treadmills, fat, and salsa, plus answers to two more questions I got on Instagram

At the time of this post I go live on Instagram every morning to answer questions.

I love the interaction, and I’m always amazed at what questions and comments my Rebels come up with.

Some I will not answer, either because I don’t know the answer or, the most likely scenario, because it’s proprietary information my Coaches and I save for our coaching clients.

Other questions, like the ones below, I will answer…but my answers aren’t always what the person asking them expects.

If you’re someone who’s pretty new to Code Red, you’ll also notice that my answers here for custom program clients and for challenge participants are different.

Use that info to help you decide whether you wanna start a challenge, and get comfortable with the basics, or whether you wanna dive in with a custom program, get your custom numbers, and the advanced small group coaching that comes with them for faster weight loss, plus more tools to give you confidence in your ability to lose the weight and keep it off.

Insta-Question 1: It’s okay to start walking on the treadmill while in weight loss mode, right?

Unless you’re brand new to Code Red, you know my tagline is “no shakes, no pills, no diet foods, no exercise.”

A lot of people see that and decide, “Cristy hates exercise!” Or “Cristy says I ‘can’t’ exercise!”

I have never once said you “can’t” exercise in weight loss mode.

In fact, when you get to your goal weight, I absolutely support exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.

But because so many people fixate on exercise as a “must-do” in order to get your weight off (our society’s brainwashed), I have no choice but to really drill down on the fact exercise is not a way to address a weight problem.

Plus, eating for performance and eating for weight loss are as far apart as the east is from the west, which makes them conflicting goals. It’s like trying to walk left AND right at the same time. You cannot do it.

Not only that, how much you exercise can make you hungrier (and no, you don’t get extra calories for exercise in weight loss mode), and depending on the exercise it is, it may even stall your weight loss.

Is it likely that walking 20 minutes a day on the treadmill will interfere with your weight loss?

No.

But if you choose to do it, do NOT go into it thinking it’ll help you lose weight faster. It won’t.

Insta-Question 2: My weight was up .4 pounds this morning, and everything’s on point. Is it possible to not have enough fat?

Yes, it is. But without more information, there’s no way to tell that A) “Not enough fat” is responsible for the .4 gain, and B) What this Rebel’s definition of “not enough fat” is.

The top three reasons for a weight loss stall are lack of sleep, lack of water, and being sloppy with your food. Any one of those things can also cause a gain.

Even when you actually are doing everything right, there are days when your weight’s gonna go up instead of down. What we want is for the overall trend to be down.

Panicking just because you see the scale go up one day instead of down is NOT cause for alarm.

Advanced troubleshooting isn’t something we offer on challenges, because it’s way, way too much information to deep dive into on a 30-day challenge.

But it’s something my Certified Coaches are trained in, and it’s made all the difference for the thousands of Rebels who’ve come through or are currently in our coaching groups.

Insta-Question 3: Are dried veggies allowed, like beets?

It depends on the process through which they’re dried.

If you’re in a coaching group, check with your coach.

If you’re on the 10 Pound Takedown, we focus on keeping it simple so you can get comfortable with the basics. Hyper-analyzing things like this will bog you down in overwhelming minute details.

Insta-Question 4: Can we have salsa with eggs in the morning?

Yes. Eggs are Code Red staples, and salsa’s a great way to add some spice and flavor.

If you’re on a custom program, make sure they fit with your numbers.

If you’re on a 10 Pound Takedown, listen to your body and stop eating when you’re full.

Insta-Question 5: How much coconut cream do you put in your coffee?

If you mean CRISTY’S coffee, one to two tablespoons, depending on how blond I want my coffee that day.

If you mean “how much coconut cream SHOULD I put in my coffee,” then that depends.

There’s no limit, but if you’re on a custom program, it needs to fit with your numbers.

If you’re not on a custom program, use it to taste (and use some common sense, meaning pouring a whole can into your coffee isn’t gonna work well for you in terms of weight loss results).

So there you have it – my expected and not so expected answers to five questions from a recent Instagram Live.
