Let’s face it…there’s no shortage of outside circumstances to blame for our problems.
We’ve ALL used stuff outside ourselves as an excuse to abandon our goals.
“My dog died.”
“My husband’s getting his gall bladder removed.”
“My elderly mother was diagnosed with cancer.”
“My life is stressful and I’m not sleeping.”
Look, I get it. It’s what “everyone does.”
But let me ask you one thing…
Do you ever get sick of outside circumstances dictating what you can accomplish?
When the dust settles from whatever’s happening (because eventually it does), are you EVER glad you went crazy?
Are you EVER glad you listened to the well-meaning but misguided enablers who tell you “it’s okay” to off the rails?
Seriously, would you tell a recovering alcoholic going through a difficult time to pop open a bottle of wine, or would you encourage them to find a better way to cope?
If you’d encourage them to find a better way to cope, why not do that for yourself?
I really want you to think about this.
I especially want you to think about how much power you’re giving even “understandable” outside circumstances to derail what you want for yourself.
There are other ways to cope with stressful outside circumstances – WAY too many for me to list here. I will say that most ways start with doing the work beforehand, not waiting until you’re in the thick of it.
As long as you’re alive, challenges are gonna come your way. You get to decide if they destroy everything you’ve worked for. It’s not easy, but we’re Code Red Rebels. We pick our hard.
One thing you can do NOW is make sure you’re connected to a like-minded support system (one that’s NOT full of enablers who’re gonna pat you on the head and tell you you “deserve” to go off the rails).
With all the pressure I’m under to run Code Red and bring this message of hope and healing to the world, you can bet I have a support system in place.
You don’t have to shoulder the entire “burden” yourself, okay? Connect with people who’ll HELP you succeed.
Also work on developing yourself into the person who can face life’s challenges in a productive way instead of a way that tears down everything you’re working for.
Other people can help you, but they can’t do EVERYTHING for you. Take responsibility for evolving into the YOU who bounces back even when life sucker punches you, okay? Yes, you CAN do it, because you already do hard things.
Seriously, you’re so much more than you give yourself credit for.
