The truth about fruits and veggies for weight loss

So a lot of nutrition plans out there tell you that every single fruit and veggie on the planet is fair game when you're eating for weight loss.

But after writing thousands of custom nutrition programs, and helping tens of thousands of people lose weight all over the world, I know that's not the case.

Let's start with veggies.

The vast majority are totally fine for weight loss mode on the Code Red Lifestyle™.

For example, cauliflower, zucchini, eggplant, radishes, peppers, cucumbers, pickles, cabbage, onions, carrots, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach, and lettuce are great choices. (And there are TONS more!)

But there are some really starchy ones, like potatoes, that I take you off of in weight loss mode.

It's not that potatoes aren't nutritious.

It's that their high carb content can interfere with fat-burning, by keeping insulin levels too high. (Remember: You cannot lose weight in the presence of insulin!)

Fruits have a lot of nutrients, but also a lot of sugar.

The fact it's “natural” sugar doesn't matter. Sugar is sugar and it spikes more insulin.

Plus, today's fruits are genetically modified to be bigger and sweeter than they would naturally, so that's even MORE sugar.

With the exception of a few berries (along with tomatoes, avocado, and olives, which are technically fruits, but we treat them as veggies on Code Red because they're not sugary), I take you off fruit in weight loss mode.

“Cristy, can I ever eat fruit and potatoes again?”

Yes, once you reach maintenance. But you'll wanna experiment with quantities to make sure you don't eat so much of them that you gain all your weight back.
