How does alcohol with no carbs affect weight loss?

Depending on which “diet” you’re trying to follow, you may be told that it’s okay for you to have alcohol in moderation.

Believe it or not, this includes most low-carb diets, because there are certain alcohols with no carbs or sugar.

So why, on the Code Red Lifestyle™, do I take you off ALL alcohol?

Because even low-carb alcohol slows, and even stalls, weight loss, for both biological and psychological reasons.

First of all, all alcohol has to go through your liver, carbs or not.

And your liver is where ketone bodies, which burn fat for fuel instead of glucose, are produced.

So if you’re guzzling even low-carb or no-carb alcohol, you’re interfering with that process and your weight loss will pay the price.

Plus, whether you drink or not, all the grains and sugar most people eat, beat the crap out of your liver, just like alcohol. It’s how you can end up with fatty liver disease, even if you don’t drink!

Add alcohol to that mix (even low-carb), and it’s a potent recipe for increased risk of liver failure.

Also, we know alcohol removes inhibitions.

This can easily lead to you reaching for additional food, especially if you’re in the habit of consuming alcohol with snacks or a meal.

Meaning, the taste and sensation of alcohol will trigger that habit to eat.

Plus, if you’re used to consuming alcohol to cope with emotions, it’s a very slippery slope for that reason, and not worth the risk.

If you want your weight off as quickly as possible, ditch the booze.

When you reach maintenance, if you still wanna drink (and you may not, but it’s an option), make it an occasional planned indulgence. Why?

Because returning to your same quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption will lead to gaining your weight back, for biological and psychological reasons. It’s not worth it!
