How do cheat days affect your weight loss?

“How much damage can ‘just one’ really do, Cristy?”

I get that question sometimes from people wanting me to validate that it’s okay they decided to stray from the program while still losing their weight.

“It’s just one piece of candy.”

“It’s just one slice of pizza.”

“Just one handful of chips.”

Look, whether or not you wanna hear it, “just one” can wreak havoc on your progress and your health.

The fact of the matter is, “moderation” doesn’t work for sugar and food addicts any more than it works for alcoholics.

Seriously, can you eat exactly three M&Ms and call it good?

Yeah, me neither.

Plus, I spend the rest of the day fighting cravings for more of the dumb little things. It’s exhausting.

What’s more, I learned very early in my days of working with clients that one cheat sets you back a week. I used to let clients have a “cheat day,” and you know what happened?

In that one meal they’d blow all the progress they made, and end up losing the same few pounds over and over, every week.

Is that really what you wanna do? Or would you rather get the weight off once and for all?

If you chose option #2, then cheat days are off the table while you’re losing weight.

Do your best not to think of it as “deprivation.” You’re CHOOSING to avoid these foods because you want the health and happiness that come as a result of picking real food, water, and sleep over “cheats.”
