Why ab exercises don’t work to get rid of belly fat

If you’ve ever done ab exercises to try and lose belly fat, only to see no change, barely any change, or even have your fat stick out MORE, there’s a simple reason why:

You cannot spot reduce fat.

Meaning, you cannot use exercise to target the fat on certain body parts, something a lot of fitness programs conveniently leave out to sell you fitness programs.

Once you lose the fat through how you eat, you can totally use fitness training to build muscle so that certain body parts look leaner.

(Don’t worry about getting bulky if you’re a woman. It’s MUUUUCH harder to get bulky than you think.)

But you cannot control where the fat comes off, including belly fat.

What you can do if you wanna lose belly fat is just lose fat in general, and the way you do that is as follows:

  • Eat a clean diet
  • Avoid sugar and processed carbs
  • Consistently get enough sleep
  • Process your stress so your body doesn’t store belly fat due to how stressed you are
  • Drink enough water

When the fat comes off your belly is gonna depend a lot on your genetics and natural shape.

Some people can gain a certain amount of weight and still have a flat stomach.

For other people, their belly is the first place they gain and the last place they lose.

It really just depends.

What does NOT depend is that ab exercises, while they may make your core stronger and tighten things up UNDER the fat, they do exactly nothing to get rid of belly fat.

Weight loss is 100% nutrition, so if you want a flat stomach, address your food, lose all your weight, and THEN focus on strength training exercise to make your whole body stronger, including your abs.
