
Douglas fought his weight all his life. He’s also battled hip, knee, and back pain.
Like many people, he believed that he could eat what he wanted as long as he exercised enough to lose the extra weight.
It would, in his words, “lead to hours on elliptical, stair stepper, bikes and any other cardio I could do. It kind of worked when I was younger but the older I got not so much.”
And the pounds piled on.
But then Douglas noticed his sister was losing a lot of weight. Every time he saw her, she was skinnier. By Christmas of 2024, she looked “really good.”
Douglas and his wife talked it over, and his wife figured out that his sister was doing something called “Code Red.”
Some internet sleuthing led them to my book, and Douglas’s wife bought it for him.
“I read the book, it’s an easy read, made sense, did not make any outrageous claims,” he explained. “I told myself, it’s time. Time to lose this weight and feel better.”
He also took notes, underlined key points, and got started in January of 2025.
As of June of 2025, he is:
Down over 50 pounds (248.5 to 195, with just 20 more to go).
Down from size 40 pants to size 33 pants.
Down from 2XL shirts to size large shirts.
“I read and followed the Code Red book. I weighed my food, this helped teach me portion size. I have hade virtually no sugar or sugar substitutes since since I started and have found out how good most food is without it. I have had, and this was a tough one, no carbs since Jan 22 (of 2025),” he told me.
“This 54.4 pounds of weight loss has made me feel so much better. My knees and hips no longer ache all the time, they still hurt occasionally from 55 years of use. My feet not only shrunk, I don’t need to order extra extra wide shoes but I can be on them all day and they don’t hurt at the end. Just in general I feel better, less aches and pains,” he added.
As for the downsides of Code Red, there was one for Douglas:
“I had to buy an entire new wardrobe and in today’s economy that wasn’t cheap, but it was well worth it.”
If you’re thinking of giving Code Red a shot, here’s what Douglas tells people who ask him how he’s lost so much weight so quickly:
“I tell them you don’t need shots or pills you just need to be ready to hold yourself accountable for your actions, buy the book and follow the super easy instructions it gives you. I tell them it will be the hardest, easy thing you ever do but that it is doable if you are really ready to make the change.”
