Hazel (my dog) got a piece of cheat grass in her eye this July (2023). I didn’t know until I woke up the next morning to her gruesome swollen eye.
I rushed her to doggy ER and she spent six hours there getting treatment.
The doctor sent me home with aggressive instructions that included six different medications every two hours. I was diligent with every step of treatment.
Fast forward just a couple weeks, and it’s like it never even happened. Good as new.
This whole experience taught me a key lesson about letting her run around off leash in the bushes at the lake.
As an Idaho girl, that rookie mistake shouldn’t have happened with me. I know better.
And I usually check her over really well, but this one slipped past my radar.
Sometimes we know better and still don’t do better.
When it comes to healthy eating and eating for weight loss, you may find yourself stuck in “that” cycle.
You know the one I’m talking about.
You know better when comes to your food, water, and sleep, but you aren’t doing better.
You keep saying you’ll “start tomorrow,” but tomorrow comes and you again don’t do better, so you kick the can down the road yet again.
It’s a vicious cycle, and getting out of it takes one (or all) of these three things:
1) The pain of continuing to know better but not do better has to get worse than the pain of finally changing.
2) Getting help and accountability…ideally from someone who scares you just a little (i.e. you respect them enough to do what they say).
3) You join a community of like-minded people and stay connected to them. Meaning, you participate instead of just joining and dropping off the face of the earth.
Which one or ones you need depends on you and where you’re at.
Bottom line: if you’re stuck in that horrible place of knowing what to do, but you’re not doing it, get the help and support you need to start DOING better.
