I’m not somebody who spends a lot of time at parties, but once in a while I’ll go. Talking to people can be a lot of fun.
Recently I went to a party in Boise that was a pretty big deal, and I wanted to make an appearance.
When I got there, one of the first things I saw was food.
EVERYWHERE.
And not only that, but a lot of it was candy, cookies, and chocolate…it looked like they hired Willy Wonka to cater it!
Of course, it all looked amazing, and I admit, I thought about “sampling” what was there.
Plus, someone I care about is going through a really tough time, so I was also fighting emotions like worry and grief (which can be HUGE eating triggers).
I navigated the party without eating all that stuff…not because I didn’t want any of it, but because I CHOSE not to eat it.
A lot of times, I think people believe they have to want something in order to choose it.
It’s great when you get to choose what you want, but sometimes the right thing for you is NOT what you want.
Alcoholics want alcohol. Does that mean it’s a great option?
Kids would love to eat a pound of M&Ms for breakfast. Does that mean that’s what you should feed them?
Getting past your “in the moment” impulses is tough sometimes.
But it’s the only way to get and keep a result – like weight loss – that takes time to happen. (In my case, I’m bodybuilding again, so staying on point with my diet is absolutely critical.)
Regardless, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Willy Wonka will not be catering the Code Red Retreat. 😂
Instead, my mom, with help from Certified Coaches, is cooking, so you’ll get fresh, homemade food.
In addition to all your meals, your retreat ticket includes lodging, activities, workshops with Coaches, and loads of quality time with like-minded people.
