The Code Red Lifestyle™ is about losing weight with real food, water, sleep, and a few simple rules. We drink a gallon of water a day!
If you’re not used to that much fluid intake, you’ll be taking more trips to the bathroom than you’re used to.
Not surprisingly, people new to Code Red, and new to drinking a gallon of water a day, worry about all the extra bathroom trips.
They start wondering, “Will I always need to pee this much?”
The short answer: No, you won’t. Your body will eventually adjust to drinking a gallon of water a day when you do it consistently.
How long it takes for your body to adjust totally depends. It could be as little as a month, or it could take longer.
Please understand that even once your body “adjusts,” you’ll still be going to the bathroom more than you did before. Make peace with that, instead of worry about it, make a few tweaks, and you’ll be totally fine.
Starting your water first thing in the morning, right after your morning weigh-in, really helps.
Plan your water-drinking around what works for your schedule, and time it so that you can go potty when you need to.
Let me give you a couple examples so you understand what I mean by planning around your schedule.
Shawna, a long-haul truck driver, gets up at 4:30 AM and is on the road by 6:00 AM.
Shawna gets 40 ounces in immediately after she gets up, so she has time to pee it out before hitting the road.
Once she’s in her truck, she works on the next 40 ounces, but she takes her time with it, so she can make it to her first stop.
She does that all day with her remaining 88 ounces, spacing her water out so that the urge to go potty hits when she’s at a truck stop, rest stop, or convenience store.
By the time she gets home, Shawna’s got all her water in. She goes potty a couple more times before bed, then settles in for a good nights sleep.
Another example:
Cindy, a night shift nurse, goes to work at 6 PM and gets off work at 4 AM. She sleeps from 5 AM to 12 Noon.
When Cindy gets up at noon, she immediately gets started on her water. Since she’s home for most of the day, it’s pretty straightforward to get her water in before her shift, but she saves one 40 ounce Code Red water bottle to drink at work.
The hospital break room is notoriously packed with crap food, and sipping water during her shift helps Cindy stay on track.
Plus, her shift is 10 hours, so she’s pretty confident she can get it in and fit in her bathroom breaks without disrupting her work too much.
See what I mean when I say you work your water in around your schedule, so that your bathroom breaks also hit when it works for your schedule?
If you’re on a home study program, and you’re drinking a different amount than a gallon, the strategy still applies. Get your water in when it works for your schedule; and to where you’re not up all night peeing.
It sounds more daunting than it actually is.
Plus, if you ask me, going potty more often is a small price to pay to get and keep your weight off (along with eating real food, sleeping, and following a few simple rules).
Heck, I’d rather go to the bathroom more often than have to visit my doctor all the time because my health is terrible.
Give it some time and put it in perspective, okay? A few extra trips to the bathroom isn’t the end of the world. It’s just different than what you’re used to.
