Why travel food is easy

When Hazel and I flew to Canada for a couple weeks in July/August of 2024, I packed two big suitcases full of food for us.

Even though I hate checking bags, I did it because I knew it would be way less hassle than figuring out food once I got there.

Hauling those huge bags reminded me that people tend to overthink travel foods on Code Red.

But they’re actually really easy.

All you need is what you need anyway: A meat, a fat, and a veggie.

A few ultra-simple examples of what this can look like:

– Bacon, hard-boiled eggs, guacamole cups

– Steak bites, hard-boiled eggs, carrot sticks

– Beef sticks, nut butter packets, celery

– Almonds, hard-boiled eggs, broccoli or cauliflower

– Sardines (if you like ’em), olives, almonds

– Pumpkin seeds, tuna or chicken packets, guacamole cups

– Beef sticks, hard-boiled eggs, pickles

See what I mean? A fat, a protein, and a veggie are all you need. Bring Code Red-approved options you like and can mix and match.

If you wanna get super serious, like your girl, here, then you can pack frozen food into a bag, check the bag, and cook your food when you get to your destination.

You also don’t have to do that.

You could get groceries delivered once you arrive, or go grocery shopping yourself.

If you’re driving, pack a cooler and bring your own food, or go grocery shopping and fill your cooler (I’ve done that on road trips).

When your mind is made up that you want this weight gone, don’t give up on your healthy eating just because you need to travel.

Commit to making it work, no matter what.

See, we make time for what’s important to us, period.

The more “priorities” you give yourself, the trickier it gets, so that’s something to watch out for. Not everything can be a priority.

If this is, then make time for it. Put effort into it.

Don’t settle for all the reasons why you think you can’t make it work.

You’re a Code Red Rebel, and you do hard things. Do the hard things that get you results you want (instead of keep you trapped in results you don’t want).
