Why it’s okay to take time off, just not from your healthy eating

“Man. I need some time away,” I realized.

This was a couple weeks before the September 2023 Code Red Retreat.

See, I can handle a LOT on my plate.

But when I reach the point of saturation, I can tell.

I have less patience.

I’m mentally less alert and focused.

I start dreading things I normally don’t mind.

All that is when I know it’s time to get away for a while…so I can refresh my mind, body, and spirit.

For me, that looks like getting out into nature, getting out of my usual environment, and stepping away from obligations.

But one thing I DON’T step away from is taking care of me.

I still get my sleep.

I still drink my water.

I still eat my healthy foods.

The vast majority of Rebels who came to the Code Red Retreat knew I meant it when I said I expected them to follow their Home Study program (if they had one and/or were not in maintenance).

A small handful still tried to get away with NOT logging their food, and my Coaches and I busted anyone we saw doing that.

Not out of judgment or criticism, but out of tough love. (When I don’t care, I don’t say anything.)

Not everyone appreciated it, but they knew my expectations going in.

There was plenty of love, support, healing, and connection at the Retreat.

AND, for a Code Red Rebel, “falling in love with YOU” (especially at a Code Red Retreat) means following your Home Study program (if you have one).

It also means you eat healthfully, vs. “rejuvenate” by binging on sugar and junk.

When you’re in maintenance and want to occasionally have something from the “foods to avoid” side of the foods list, I show you how to do it without gaining back your weight.

But that’s still not the same as going on a vacation to “rejuvenate” and binging for two straight weeks.

Your body needs CLEAN fuel to rejuvenate, not crap.

And your mind and spirit rejuvenate more thoroughly when your body’s getting clean fuel.

Bottom line: YES, taking time off to rejuvenate is key.

AND, real rejuvenation includes real food, water, and sleep.
