Something I warn you about a lot are the dangers of trying to do this “all on your own.”
The REASON I do that is because I’ve been doing this for over 30 years. And in 30 years’ time, clear patterns show up.
One of those patterns is this: People who disconnect from the community struggle and gain back weight.
Sometimes it happens IMMEDIATELY.
Other times it takes a few weeks, months, or even years.
But the people who isolate themselves from what worked for them regress back to their old ways.
Case in point:
Read what three different Code Red Rebels shared about the dangers of doing it all on your own:
“My biggest mistake I’ve ever made was becoming complacent with my weight loss. Thinking that I can do it by myself. Still keeping Hershey Kisses in my secret stash and only eating a few a day. Seriously! I could eat the whole bag in 2 days. I would tell someone that you need to stay connected to the weight loss community. You need to stay committed to yourself. You need to have a partner / friend to talk to when you are feeling like going off the rails. You need someone in your life that will be honest with you. Staying connected to like-minded people will be and can be your success story. Stay connected!”
“This one is easy for me. My biggest mistake was stepping away from the community and thinking I could do it all by myself. The community is an essential part of this process whether you are just beginning or in maintenance. Also, don’t give in to your inner voice. Also something that has really helped me was taking advantage of all the extra ‘classes’ you can.”
“My biggest mistake in my weight loss journey was thinking I could do it all alone. I believed that sheer willpower would be enough, but I quickly learned that lasting change doesn’t happen in isolation. I need a support system. My family needs to understand and be on board, and the Code Red community and coaches need to keep me accountable, call me out when needed, and cheer me on along the way. Support isn’t a weakness it’s a foundation. It keeps me in the right mindset, and mindset is everything in the Code Red lifestyle. If I could tell someone just starting out one thing, it would be this: Don’t try to do it alone. Find your people. Let them help you stay focused, encouraged, and grounded. You’re not meant to do this by yourself and you don’t have to.“
Take the lessons they learned to heart…especially if you learned the same lessons the hard way, like they did.
It’s not too late for them, and if you’ve regained weight, it’s not too late for you, either.
