During a recent makeup tutorial on my makeup channel, I found myself with a hankering to include yellow in my eye makeup.
Yellow’s a tough color to pull off, especially with eye makeup, but you know me…I’m not one to back down from a challenge. 😂
Even with several eye makeup pallets in my collection, I only had one shade of yellow to choose from because yellow’s not a popular color.
I grabbed one of my brushes and applied the yellow to both eyelids.
Not having a lot of experience with yellow, I wasn’t sure what would look good with it, so I chose orange, thinking I’d create a sunset look.
Aaaaand it went bad QUICK.
I tried to save it with a gold shimmer over my eyelids, but even that gorgeous gold couldn’t rescue the look.
Comments from my viewers like “Abort abort abort!” and “Start over” started rolling in.
I also got comments like…
“That looks TERRIBLE.”
“I would NEVER go out looking like that.”
“I can’t believe you’re going to leave the house like that.”
The problem was, I couldn’t abort. I didn’t have all day to do makeup, and most of it was already on.
So despite all my viewers telling me to start over, I decided to roll with it. I knew I could pull it off for ONE day.
Was it my favorite look ever?
No.
Will I repeat the look?
NO.
But I looked okay, and I learned a valuable lesson about the dangers of combining yellow and orange eye shadow. 😂
I also resisted the social pressure from my viewers to start all over.
Most of my viewers meant well. I get that.
AND I was the only one who believed I could pull it off (which I did).
Most of the people who pressure you to abandon your health goals for the holidays, vacations, or other social occasions probably mean well, too.
But good intentions don’t make someone right.
You’ve got to believe you can do it, even when no one else does.
You’ve got to follow through with your healthy choices, even if no one else thinks you should.
If you’re not used to believing in yourself, it can take some work and practice.
In the meantime, get connected to people who will believe in you while you learn to believe in yourself. Even ONE person can make a huge difference!
