Is self-doubt stopping you from doing this?

Does this sound familiar?

You’re excited to do something. You’re bursting with anticipation and you cannot wait to get started…

…until that white-hot ball of nerves in the pit of your stomach settles in. It churns like a nest of angry hornets.

And right on cue come the fearful thoughts.

“But what if…?”

“I don’t know if I…”

“Maybe I shouldn’t…”

Next thing you know, you’ve talked yourself out of doing that amazing thing you were so excited about. Why?

Self-doubt.

People thinking of joining the Code Red Lifestyle talk themselves out of it for the same reason they talk themselves out of doing anything that’s out of their comfort zone: They don’t believe in themselves enough to risk failure in order to get what they want.

When you believe in yourself–truly believe in yourself–nothing and no one can stop you. Not even failure. The most failure does is slow you down.

So how do you stop letting self-doubt hold you back?

Getting to the root cause of your self-doubt is definitely a must, but that’s a whole different topic.

Another thing you can do is counter the self-doubt with positive motivation and inspiration.

Here are three ways my successful Rebels and I keep the self-doubt at bay.

Nix the negative self-talk

Some people say the most horrible things to themselves – things they wouldn’t say to their worst enemy.

If that’s you, here’s what I want you to do: A) If you wouldn’t say it to the cutest, sweetest, most well-behaved little baby you’ve ever seen, don’t say it to yourself. Would you call that baby a stupid loser who can’t do anything right? Then don’t say that to yourself. B) Start paying yourself compliments. It may feel weird at first, but do it anyway. Starting today, once a day, just write down something nice about yourself.

Surround yourself with uplifting people

If self-doubt plagues you, the last thing you need is to spend all your time around negative people who complain, whine, are all about doom and gloom, and worst of all, who tear you down.

Limit your time with them, if at all possible. If they live in the same household, that might be harder, which is why you need to seek out and spend time with people who build you up, and are positive and uplifting.

It’s what I do. I also protect my personal space religiously, because I don’t want a bunch of negative vibes around me all the time.

Get inspired by people who are where you want to be

If there’s something you want to do, like lose weight, start seeking out (either in person or online) people who are succeeding, or have succeeded, at weight loss (or whatever activity you want to succeed at).

Spending all your time around people who can’t or won’t make it work isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Find people, like my Code Red Rebels (in this example) who are kicking butt at their weight loss journey, or are already at goal weight, and soak in the inspiration of their success. Use to motivate you, and to build up your belief that you can do it, too (because you can!).

Self-doubt takes work to overcome, but anyone can do it who wants to do it.
