Read this if people are noticing your weight loss

I used the same nail tech for nine years, but when it started feeling like she didn’t really give a hoot or value my business, I decided to try some other places.

One of them was a Vietnamese-owned nail salon in downtown Boise called Anna Nail (not Nails – Anna Nail), owned by Anna and Andy.

I also tried a girl downtown whose work wasn’t very good (especially for what she charged).

Since I couldn’t find anyone who was the right fit, I decided I might as well choose convenience and went back to Anna Nail, since it’s right across from the gym where I’m training for my next bodybuilding show.

I walked into Anna Nail a couple weeks ago and got my nails done with them again.

Two weeks later, I had to get a fill, so I called them up and booked a same-day appointment for my fill.

Fifteen minutes after calling, I showed up and sat down to wait for my appointment. Anna walked in from the back, so I said, “Hi, Anna!”

“Hi,” she replied, then said something in Vietnamese to her husband.

Suddenly, they were going back and forth in Vietnamese. I don’t speak Vietnamese, but I knew they were talking about me because I kept hearing my name, and they kept looking at me.

Turns out they were arguing over whether it was actually me, because Anna abruptly turned to me and said, “Whaaaa? You Cristy??”

“Yeah, hi, Anna! It’s Cristy!” I confirmed.

“There no way! You don’t look like Cristy!” she insisted.

“I am!” I assured her. “I haven’t been here in about a year, but yeah, it’s me.”

Anna proceeded to freak out, telling me I looked like I’d lost weight.

“You’re right, I have lost weight,” I confirmed.

“Oooh, you half the person you were before!” she continued.

At that point, I started to question what she was saying…not because I thought she was lying or anything, but because I hadn’t actually lost enough weight to be half the size I was the last time she’d seen me.

I’d dropped some weight, sure, but not half my body weight!

I’d also been weight lifting, and weight lifting does reshape your body (though we don’t exercise for weight loss on Code Red; I’m training for a bodybuilding show), so maybe that had something to do with how different I looked.

Anna went on and on for several minutes, telling me I looked twenty years younger and she did not recognize me.

Seeing Anna’s shock reminded me of how different we can look to people who haven’t seen us since we lost weight. (Even if it’s not that much weight. 😂)
