I’m worried about being “too skinny”

When someone buys a custom nutrition program with Code Red, I pick your goal weight.

The reason I pick your goal weight is because SO many people choose a weight that seems reachable, not a weight that’s actually healthy for them.

For example, I recently had a lady who’s 5’4″ and weighs 282 put her goal weight as 200 pounds.

Even the most voluptuous, muscular 5’4″ woman on the planet doesn’t need to weigh 200 pounds!

I know this lady chose 200 pounds because it seemed attainable. I chose a goal weight MUCH lower than that (based on the information she gave me in her custom program questionnaire).

After getting her goal weight and custom numbers, she posted that she was worried about being “too skinny.”

Eating disorders and body image dysmorphia are real and serious problems.

But this is something different. I call it borrowing trouble.

When you have 150 pounds to lose, what good will worrying about being “too skinny” do you?

None whatsoever.

So many people have a tendency to worry about stuff that hasn’t happened yet. I get it, and there are times when it’s useful, but there are also a TON of moments when all you do is get yourself worked up over nothing.

I’ve seen people freeze up and never make progress because they’re too busy worrying about next steps they haven’t even reached yet!

When you’re entering weight loss mode, focus on losing your weight.

Not on whether you’ll be “too skinny,” not on what to do about loose skin, not on the best kind of exercise once you reach goal weight.

Put your time and energy into your current step, not into things that aren’t even on the horizon yet.

Another issue with worrying about being “too skinny” is that obesity is so prevalent in our world today, people are starting to forget what a healthy weight looks like.

This is especially true when you’ve spent a significant amount of time heavy. To yourself, and even to other people in your life, you might look “too skinny,” even when you’re at a totally healthy weight.

Your brain is SO used to seeing you big, that yeah, by comparison, you at your ideal weight probably will LOOK “too skinny.”

Once your brain has time to get used to you at your new size (it’ll take time), you’ll realize you look GREAT and look healthy not “too skinny.”

Same with your friends and family. Most people who tell you you’re too skinny are used to seeing heavy you. Once their brains adjust, they’ll start to realize how great you look.

Worrying about being “too skinny” is sabotaging yourself before you even get started. Let’s not go there, okay? Focus on losing your weight, and give your brain the time it needs to adjust to your new size.
