See if you’ve been down this road.
You decide you’ll start your weight loss on New Year’s, again, except “THIS time you’ll CRUSH IT!!!”
Or you’ll start on Monday, or next week, or next month, or after some “complicated” season of your life passes.
You feel good about your commitment. You even get a happy hormone hit because you’ve “decided.” Go you!
Then the day you’re supposed to start “crushing it” hits, and here’s what happens.
Either you do start, but fizzle fast, and grasp for any excuse you can think of to avoid feeling like you let yourself down again…
Or you kick the can down the road again, because “something came up,” or “you don’t feel like it today.”
If you’ve ever done anything like this, you’ve fallen for a brutal, sneaky form of self-sabotage called the false start.
A false start is where you “commit” to starting, feel good about it, but don’t actually pursue your goal.
It’s sneaky because you still feel good about yourself for your “commitment.”
But take a step back, and you haven’t actually accomplished anything, because committing to start is not the same as starting.
False start self-sabotage sweeps through the nation every New Year’s, with millions of people “committing” to accomplish a goal in the new year.
And what they don’t realize is that they’re confusing a false start with actually starting.
I’ve seen people waste weeks, months, years – even decades – of their lives false starting, instead of just starting.
When I bring this up with people, I get comments like, “Who starts a diet on Christmas Eve, lol.”
(The person who wants the weight OFF and GONE FOR GOOD. That’s who starts on Christmas Eve.)
As we head into yet another New Year’s resolution season, please hear me on this.
If you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, don’t sabotage your success with yet another false start.
Start NOW.
Don’t fall for the self-delusional lie that committing to start is the same thing as starting.
Don’t fall for the self-delusional lie that buying a book or paying for coaching is the same as USING those things.
Do not allow yourself to get sucked into the self-delusion that a false start is the same as a start. It absolutely 100% is NOT.
If you want the result, start NOW.
