How to overcome the holiday “I’m missing out” mindset

Losing weight over the holidays isn’t for the faint of heart.

Heck, just keeping your weight the same isn’t for the faint of heart!

Popular culture tells you you’re SUPPOSED to eat to the point of being sick.

You’re SUPPOSED to whip out those holiday treats that you “only have once a year.”

Going against the grain to stay on track…to either abstain from treats that’ll derail your weight loss…or even make healthier alternatives…is an intimidating prospect for most people.

And then there’s “what other people will think” when they find out you’re making different choices than they would…or just different choices than they’re expecting.

If any of that resonates for you, here are a few things to help you stay on track:

  • If you’re trying to lose weight right now, you know you’re already missing out on parts of life by being obese (and maybe sick). You’re missing out on feeling comfortable in your own skin, on eating in public without being judged, on walking a block without knee pain, on climbing a flight of stairs without feeling like you just ran a marathon, and so on. Are you really willing to prolong all that? And are you really so attached to it that you won’t stay on track for even ONE holiday season?

  • Where’s the part of you that is sick and tired of being fat, sick, and tired? Why are you shoving that part of you to the back burner just to repeat the patterns that led to you BEING fat, sick and tired?

  • Losing weight isn’t supposed to be something you do every day for the rest of your life. It’s a chapter in the book. Stay on track, get it off, and then turn the page to the next chapter – the one where you move forward with a new mindset of, “Yes, I’ll enjoy any foods I want, but I’ll do it differently. I’ll do it in a way that KEEPS the weight off instead of packs it on.”

Bottom line: You’re already missing out by living in an obesity prison. The part of you that’s okay with being obese if it means you “get to eat what you want, when you want” has been running the show for decades.

It doesn’t want to lose control to the part of you that wants to be slender and healthy and feel good in your own skin.

So it’s filling your head with worries, cares, and concerns about “missing out” and “what others will think.”

Get in touch with the part of you that is sick to the death of being fat, sick, and tired, and let it run the show for once.

It will keep you on track if you let it.
