Here’s Why You Have To Be Your Own Best Health Advocate

Hazel and I got a cabin at the Cowboy Resort here in Jackson Hole when we finally arrived.

(It’s a “resort” with 88 little cabins. They’re SO cute!)

As Hazel and I checked in at the main building, one of the hosts said, “By the way, we have a continental breakfast right here from 7 AM to 10 AM in our breakfast room.”

“Oh, that’s amazing!” I replied, pleasantly surprised.

“Yeah, we have coffee, we have juice, we have food. We would LOVE for you to come and have the continental breakfast!”

“Great, thanks!”

I didn’t mention that I actually brought all my own food (including coffee creamer). 😂

But if their continental breakfast was THAT good, I could eat it, still hit my macros, and not have to use up as much of my own food.

So, the next morning, I walked over to their breakfast room to check out this “amazing” continental breakfast, and here’s what I found:

– Coffee
– Orange juice
– Bagels
– Donuts

That’s all.

Uh, what the heck is THIS? I thought, shocked and disappointed…

Because I had it in my mind that they’d have things like:

– Bacon and/or sausage
– Hard-boiled and/or scrambled eggs
– Berries
– Greek yogurt
– Little tubs of cream cheese

But no. Just coffee + sugar (or foods that turn to sugar once digested).

The only fat in sight was butter for the bagels!

What. A. JOKE.

Maybe not for everyone.

But for a Code Red Rebel (or anyone who wants something besides sugar) for breakfast?

VERY frustrating.

This whole thing was also a reminder of how important it is to be your own best health advocate.

The mainstream world – in this country, at least – is still set up for unhealth. Just look at our soaring obesity and disease rates!

But rather than wait around for the government or someone else to fix it, step forward and start making better choices. Start being your own best health advocate.

Because until you do, you’ll stay at the mercy of our “unhealth” system.

There ARE options out there, like Code Red, to help you. I’m not saying you’re in this alone.

I AM saying that it starts with you, and you’ve gotta do your part, like I did my part by saying, “Uh, HECK no” to that sugar-soaked “continental breakfast.”

I know it’s hard to swim against the current. But again, you’re not in this alone, and there are tools, resources, and support available to help you do it!

Come join us in the Code Red network! We’ve got communities, tons of videos, podcasts, articles, motivation, tips, programs, meal ideas, and more! It’s free to join, and you can join in either of these two ways:
